I see way too much sarcasm on this board. This board is supposed to be professional? yea right.
I thought a forum is supposed to be a friendly learning enviorment, not some sarcastic get bashed for not using the best stuff, but define best anymore.
Mods and Admins, I'm sorry my reply is off...
Unexpectedly I got Castrol GTX 5w30 at Carquest. I got it because there, we can get student discounts, so I bought 5 quarts for $2.49, I'm not complaining.
Now get this, while not impressed with there oil selection, I saw Castrol Syntec and thought I would give that a go. Guess what, Carquest...
Triple_Se7en,
I can only find 30 & 40wt's here. Then you got the Valvoline Racing Oil which is like 60 or 70wt.
Would Pennzoil's 20w20 be considered a straight 20wt??? op
I like straight weights because of the shear resistance. Yea you lose a MPG or 2 but I can live with that for several months.
Besides, I've never tried a straight weight before other than of course our lawnmower. I'll be anxious to see how the UOA turns out myself,,,op
That is a nice UOA, despite no TBN was done.
11K miles on Pennzoil + LC, mostly short stuff driving and little highway, that makes me feel better. Thanks,,,,,op
Just to try it? Not sure how long I'll run it for. Let's see, our summers are 4 months long. So in that time, I'll probably rack up about 4000-4500 miles? Do a UOA and see how it turns out,,,,op
I've never bought PP before, after my truck hits 80K, this will be my first time running PP.
Now since you guys replied, I'm having second thoughts??????? Now since Castrol is the new BITOG sponsor, I'm considering there products. I'll let everyone know what I decide with,,,,op
P.S First...
Are summers here in Ohio are usually in the mid to upper 80's and nights are about in the low to mid 60's
I'm curious to see what a UOA would look like in my truck running a 30wt, no particular brand,,,op
Well, After some research, pricing etc... I've decided to try PP 5w30.
My truck is 8 years old. I go to college so I need to save a few bucks but I can't justify on paying $5 1/2 bucks a quart for oil anymore.
I do alot of highway commuting, about 400 miles on a weekend total and then maybe...
Given the Amsoil EAO filters are made of that high filter fine stuff, I would only consider that filter for a full 15,000 mile run.
A pure one or any other covential filter, no more than 7500-8000 miles tops,,,,op
I'm do for an oil change here within 200 miles. I'm really considering PP 5w30 and continuing my use of LC. I think that should be a pretty nice combo,,,,,op
06Ranger,
Mine has been treating me real well. Just been doing regular maintence and keep up. I've got a few mods done to it such as the K&N FIPK and a Magnaflow exhaust.
Good luck with your new Ranger! op
I don't get people like that. If your too ignorant or lazy to get your oil changed whether it'd be yourself or a shop, then I dunno man!
I see it this way. A car gets you from point A to point B. It takes care of you doing that. So in return take care of your car and it will take care of you,,,op
I love working on my own vehicles. I get a kick out of it and like others here, it gives me a good chance to check other things out. Ball joints, loose or worn lines, tires, and I change my PCV valve everytime I change the oil etc...
Alot of people tend to forget the computer valve, make sure...
KC Strip- the only difference I see of adding LC to synthetic vs dino is loooong OCI's. That is, if your into that thing.
LC + Havoline for example, depending on your driving style, somewhere between 8-10K miles
LC + Mobil1, more like 15K+ op
