    Chevy Trailblazer OCI recommendations

Sold my 02 Honda CRV. Now I have an 04 Chevy Trailblazer with the 4.2L I6. Trailblazer has 7 quart sump. It has the dummy light for the GM oil life monitor. I've heard that it takes a looong time for the light to come on. What OCI would you use if you used conventional/synthetic 5w-30 with...

    Pentius PLB3600 Photos - Dissection!

Here's the pictures I promised. This is a Pentius PLB3600 oil filter. Seems very well made. Took me forever to cut it open with my Dremel. The canister is very thick. Check out the unique bypass valve. The plating is very even and there is a lot of it. Spiral tube with a nitrile ADBV. The...

    Pentius oil & air filters

I recently purchased a load of Pentius branded oil and air filters for my companies fleet. They feel very sturdy and seem to be well made. All of their items seem to be made in Korea. Does anyone know if there is a major plant in Korea and who it belongs to? The bypass valve in the back looks...

Amsoil 5w-20 XL vs. Amsoil 0w-20

I'm getting a little jelous now with all the talk about Amsoil 0w-20. Amsoil has a lot of information about their oils, however I'm not really putting together what the real difference is between the 5w-20 XL and the 0w-20 (besides the obvious 0w, 5w) I'm thinking about putting this oil in my...

10K mile OCI bad for short mileage trips?

Need some advice for those who care to reply. Does anyone think that my 02' Honda CRV would work with a 10K mile OCI that Honda recommends? The car drives only every other day for 5.5 mile trips to work that last about 12-15 minutes. Sometimes I make the trip two to three times a day. Car also...

    FRAM SureDrain draining issue

I have been using a FRAM SureDrain SD2 for over a year now. Very convenient and clean to work with. I pulled off the SureDain the other day after it had stopped draining all of the oil. An additional 1/3 qt. came out when I removed the plug. I guess the bolt that goes into the oil pan really...

Honda CRV drain & fill fluids, other than Z-1

Quick question for you guys in the know. I'm thinking about making my own Honda Z-1 fluid for my 2002 Honda CRV with 40K. Lubegard universal says that it converts Dexron/Mercon fluid to a Z-1 equivalent. Is Dexron/Mercon the best base fluid to start with? Which fluid would work best with the...

    Carquest Synthetic Oil

Does anyone know anything about Carquest branded synthetic oil? I know the conventional is Ashland, so I assume the synthetic would be as well. Would it be a stretch to say that it's comparable to Valvoline Synpower?

Types of seals that Maxlife works on

Just curious to see what types of seals Valvoline Maxlife works on. Is it just the rubber and/or cork seals, or does it work on others? I happen to have an 02 CRV with a perpetual oil pan leak. It does not use a traditional oil pan gasket, it instead uses some type of semi-liquid seal. I...

Anyone doing 6mo/7500k miles on Dodge Caravan?

Just bought a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L for the wife. Oil cap/manual states 5w-20 oil. Severe is 3 months / 3000. Normal is 6 months / 7500 miles. Anyone here doing the full 6 months / 7500 mile OCI for their van? My wife drives 99% highway to work and back, so she's easy on the oil.

Nascar Oil Faq's page on oil

Has anyone ever seen this before? I found it interesting that Nascar vehicles have 6 gallon oil capacity. COPY OF QUESTION: With the oil companies telling me to change my truck's oil every 3,000 miles -- or more often when doing a lot of towing -- my question is how often do race teams...
