    Pennzoil {PYB conventional} 30W or 10W-30 change it often at first like after the first tank of gas then every other for 3 quarts of oil. This will flush out the break in ware metals, oil is cheap, and this engine doesn't hold a lot. ]

    I think your on the right track. Clean it and lube it up with cold temp grease then see how it runs.

    The housing and shafts look like they are pitted meaning they won't hold anything close to liquid and grease is your only hope. Adding a grease fitting and cleaning up all the parts might get you through a few more winters if you add grease often like after every use to force out any water that...

    Go with the 5W-30 with 4k to 6K changes. Oil and filters are cheap. Also, see about changing the transmission fluid. CVT's can burn up their fluid.

    Get an SSD! I have an ancient laptop {2015 eara} with an AMD A6 that is running Win10pro just fine. Just get an SSD and at least 8 gigs of memory and it will be a LOT faster

    Same engine, and the K&N filter was NASTY almost dripping with oil, immediately replaced with a Denso that's who makes them for Toyota

    I was thinking the same thing and was amazed at the difference it made when cleaned IACV on my Subies but this Toyota was a no-go for cleaning Idle is rougher with the air on not as bad with it off. It's had 3 tanks of gas through it one with Techron. fully warmed fuel trims short -1.6 to 2.3...
