    Evap sytem basic operation?

From what I understand, the evap system works when refueling and when the car is running. When refueling the excess air in the tank is forced through the charcoal canister, scrubbed and clean air is released through the air drain. When running, vapors in the tank are sucked into the canister and...

Is this too much dry rot?

Thanks for all the replies. The DOT code says 1612. Very disappointing that these only lasted 3.5 years. No unusual usage or abuse. I did notice they lost air pressure rather quickly, it must have been coming through the sidewalls. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and replace them all.

Is this too much dry rot?

01 Echo. I went to get a tire replaced today that had a broken belt and the guy told me my tires are dry rotted and all should be replaced. They're Hankook 175/65/R14 w/ about 36K miles and about 3 yrs. old. The salesman told me tires only last 4 years. What do you think? Thanks

    Tire problem

02 Echo. The RF tire pulls to the right and there is a noticeable shimmy at about 50 mph. I looked at the suspension and didn't see anything wrong. I pulled the tire and noticed a kind of indentation or slope to the tread as pictured. Tread is good on the rest of the tire. Any ideas on what...

    Tranny check up?

Does anyone know what the filler plug refers to? I thought you added the oil through the dipstick. The little balloon in the drawing mentions .02" of oil which is minuscule compared to the 2.0qt capacity. Thanks

    Tranny check up?

01 Echo, 188K miles, AT, fluid level good. I think I might be slipping a bit going into 1st gear. Is there any way for a tranny shop to give the tranny a check up and tell me the state of the thing? Or is it a case of you just have to wait until it breaks? Thanks

    Noisy muffler

I'm getting noise from my exhaust. I included some pics. It's coming out the hole in the pipe that joins to the catalytic converter. The hole is perfectly round so it doesn't seem like it's worn through (though of course maybe it is). Any ideas on what's causing the noise? The noise is typical...

    Remove body molding fastener?

What tool would be good to get this off? I was going to try a screwdriver and try and pry it off but I don't want to break it. It's body molding on an 01 Echo. Thanks

I was trying to remove the EFI fuse to clear a DTC but it wouldn't come out and I ended up cracking the cover off. How can I get it out? Thanks

Oil pan drain bolt or oil pan threads stipped?

Thanks for all the replies. It turns out it was the drain bolt. I probably should have mentioned that when I unscrewed the bolt there was a lot of loose thread circling around the bolt. That was probably at the top of the bolt which wasn't magnetic. Oddly enough when I brought the bolt into Napa...

Oil pan drain bolt or oil pan threads stipped?

Either the bolt is stripped or the pan itself. Can you tell by looking at the bolt in the pic? If it's the bolt can I just replace it or do I need to do anything with the oil pan threads? I think it came from over tightening, as I had to tighten that thing with a breaker bar or it would leak...
