Why conventional oil for break in?

I'll be sure to NOT tell the boss he's wrong. Won't hurt a thing if that's what he thinks.

Why conventional oil for break in?

I talked with a tech from VP a few years ago and he recommended conventional oil until the engine broke in. When is it broken in? When it does what? Stop comsuming oil or something? I never figured that out so I just waited until the UOA's seemed stable... Anyway, isn't this sort of an...

Why conventional oil for break in?

I keep reading on break in topics ... "I'm going to use XYZ conventional oil until the car breaks in then I'm switching to M1PPYZ synthetic." I've done this myself in the past but I realize I have no idea why. What's fact, fiction and urban legend in all this?

    G37S - Oil...what a PITA Topic

Never mind JonfromCB. I just found all your posts on a G37 forum. Here's one of them...."Duke, do you own a VQ37? If you do look at section 9, Technical and consumer information in your owners manual. It says "Nissan recommends genuine Nissan Ester Engine Oil available at your Nissan dealer" I...

Been awhile. Got tired of the negativity of certain posters so I stopped posting...but I'll give it another go. Sorry about the bad formatting. Universals last. Several oil changes with PP not tested after the ? oil. I forgot which oil I used at the "?"....All PP OCI's use Amsoil filters changed...

    G37S - Oil...what a PITA Topic

I read the article and the long comments...groan. Who is Will? ..."Be careful when considering an ester base...oil...as even Nissan found that a TMP concentration of over 3% had solubility and stability issues (as most esters are susceptible to hydrolysis) and a concentration of .4 to 1.5% was...

    G37S - Oil...what a PITA Topic

I've read everything, everywhere...the majority written by ignorant (like me) but well meaning Nissan/Infiniti forum users. Studied every BITOG thread about this several times. I'm not going to waste time describing the reason Nissan recommends thier oil. It's covered everyewhere. Unless I learn...

Anyone do an oil change on a '09 V6 Toyota Rav4?

Geeze! Did you guys try a breaker bar on those stuck 3/8 plugs? Only have a short handle ratchet or what? But...I'll find out here soon myself and IF mine is "stuck" like yours I'll drive over to the dealership and demand they "loosen" it for me...make them live up to thier "LEXUS EXPERIENCE"...

3 Hour Idle - Change oil or not?

Fresh PP in my Accord...a trucker jack knifed and closed Raton Pass. No one moved for three hours, 15F degrees and I had to keep the car warm for my elderly parents. Put 400+- more miles at 75-80 mph. Wondering about fuel dilution and so on. What's best? Keep the oil or change it out?

"Notice the Motorcraft 5W-20, which is a grade below the recomended 5W-30, held up extremely well, even after being diluted cosiderably by excessive fuel in the oil." If you had some TBN left then I might agree. I would get this number next time in case your fuel dilution remains high. Your TBN...

    Castrol Syntec 5W/20, 4,900, Honda Accord '04 V6

First time using Castrol Syntec 5W/20. No dramatic differences I can see. NAPA GOLD/Wix Oil and Air filters instead of OEMs. FRAM air filter to follow soon. FE, Cr and Cu all improved nicely and on a longer OCI. Maybe just further break-in trend down. (Replaced this Syntec with PP 5W/20 for the...

synthetic motor oil : does lower temp. gage >

Perhaps people with air head motorcycles could add their two cents since termostats seem to be getting in the way. I think about oil temps all the time while riding my '73 BMW in the desert heat of New Mexico's summers. My unscientific impression is Amsoil slightly lowers oil temperatures based...
