2009 Chevy Cobalt Low on Power

Any rattles on start up? Those Ecotecs can jump time on you... (Of course, my experience is with the older 2.2 L61 dragging around a Vue, so speed is not familiar)

K&N HP-7038 oil filter failed at end cap

Best trick on specials is return it & get something else! Garbage filters...

Do you replace a filter based on age instead of run time?

It depends-low end cellulose (Fram PH, base Champ/Luberfiner, Hastings, etc.) on an outside piece of equipment I wouldn't go over a year. Full synthetic like OG Ultra, Fleetguard Stratapore could stay on until the can rusts off!

    Jeep 3.6 filter

Cartridge is a little too long, gets compressed during use. The first cartridge I used in my Ecotec 2.2 Vue looked more squashed than that after only 1K on RGT 5W30 & HPL EC 30 (was Purolator made R series CQ).

What is the danger of using one of the newer oils in old vehicles

I routinely put 5W20 in my son’s 2007 K24 Accord, hasn’t hurt it any! 0W16 might be fine, 0W8 is pushing it, IMO…

    Fram FS12060 differences

Trying to figure out how the later Champ Labs one was a true “Titanium”-no full synthetic media, and no shaped inlet holes to induce swirling inside(?)-it’s like a ToughGuard, but TWICE as expensive!

Idiots that drive with hitch balls attached…

Pretty sure leaving one in the hitch is illegal... Good luck getting it enforced, though! Hope you can find a cover.

Why Honda is no longer Toyota's equal in the used car market.

I’m not overly enthused with the mandatory AWD system on most CR-Vs, either-seems to be a mileage penalty and potential issues with it. Now, give me a FWD 5 speed with a K24, I would be in.

Extremely loud vibration in bathroom after taking a shower

Sounds like water hammer! When my pressure regulator was failing every water pipe in the house would start banging whenever water was turned off!

Valvoline Restore and Protect wear data. How good does it really protect?

I have Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 on hand, but I picked up 3 of those $4 Quaker State 5W-20 AZ jugs-always nice to have cheap insurance!

1964 original unrestored Impala in Tokyo?

I had a ‘64 Impala SS for a little while, 283/Powerglide. I sold it when I realized it had a bad patch job on the rusting X-frame, I was afraid it might break in half…

    Filter Quality

Premium Guard has bought the plant, and is moving equipment from the ex-Fram plant in Greenville, OH to Champion in Albion, IL-SOMETHING will be built there (might not be called Champ). Also, anyone who has an engine with piston oil squirters using a Purolator built oil filter is PLAYING WITH...

My visit to Chik Fil A

I'm a fan of their chicken noodle soup, and their western salad with the pepitas, avocado dressing, and tortilla strips. the spicy chicken is OK. CFA's secret weapon is frying in peanut oil, that's why all the fried chicken is tasty! If you use the app, you can earn a free sandwich once in a...

How to search for “silver” in used oil analysis

If it’s not too short, searching for “Ag” might work too.

    VW Buzz news

It’s not limited to the West Coast-I’m perpetually sitting in an intersection, waiting to turn left using “clearance on yellow”-and they just keep running the red. Virtually no one running traffic here…

    VW Buzz news

Almost all of the time, if there are lights for the crosswalk, they are counting down-zero generally indicates a yellow light most of the time. So there’s plenty of warning!

Most braking done by the front wheels?

My ‘07 Corolla needed rear shoes because the brake shoe linings were falling off due to rust! What was left wasn’t worn much!

Most braking done by the front wheels?

The fullsize Transit vans have HEAVY rear bias over the fronts-I’ve gone through 2 sets of rear pads before the fronts wore out. Guessing Ford assumed a lot of weight over the rear? Many years ago, when I was young, the company I worked for had overloaded S-10s as service vehicles, with...

Hit a truck tire on the highway. Got real lucky!

There's a reason my '03 MGM is the designated long distance runner, over the Corolla, Vue, even the vans!
