How do you drain your oil filters?

I don't drain them. I use large-mouthed black plastic containers that GNC puts their whey, creatine, protien powders in. One large one will hold all the used oil from an oil change PLUS the filter dropped into the jug. Then they go to my neighborhood household hazardous waste collection center.

What Harbor freight tools do you give 5 stars?

    >The black 3 piece lug nut impact socket set- durable black finish, easy to read numbers. A 17mm, 19 mm sized socket and an SAE sized socket. Both double sided with a handy extension that puts it just the right distance to clear the tire with my torque wrench. > The air tool oil that is made in...

    Hankook Tires- Made in USA

I have been a fan of Hankook tires for a while now. Quiet, well performing and long wearing for me. Hankook is based in South Korea, but has global production facilities and distribution worldwide. I had read a few years ago about them building a plant in Tennessee. I was pleased to note that...

    Weird modifications or car hacks

A few years ago I would regularly see a hack repair of a 10-15yo Camry parked at the hospital that I work at. I took some photos but they are lost in my old flip phone. This car had been rear-ended with heavy damage to the entire rear end up to the wheel arches. The owner ( I suppose) cut off...

Anyone Interested In Learning Your Family Tree?

Yes, that has been a hobby of mine for several years. I have a tree on MyHeritage family tree as well as a few on Ancestry. I had my Y DNA done a few years ago and mine and a family members autosomal 2 years ago. That opened up a whole new interesting world for me.

    Purpose of the....02' Sensor

The O2 sensors in a gasoline engine car works with the Engine Control Module to determine the oxygen content of the exhaust. This information is used during closed-loop operation to adjust the fuel injected to make the best charge for the conditions of operation. Except in modern OBD-2 (after...

Do you buy professional tools or cheap ones?

I buy both. Some stuff is from HF or other value priced makers from Spain, India. Some of my tools are ones I have had for 30-45 years; mostly Craftsman. But much of what I have I have bought 2nd or 3rd hand at garage sales, estate sales, business liquidators, etc. Some Snap-on, Mac, Bonney. I...

    Hacks Use cheaters? How Long?

I have a 52" alloy handle from an alloy racing floor jack that died a tragic death. I ovalized the knurled end with a vise and mandrel and it fits most all my bigger wrenches. For smaller jobs I have a strut tube cut off of the first new car I bought- a '76 Honda Civic 5 speed. And another piece...

What kind of vehicle ramps do you use?

I have a pair of the 12K Rhino ramps that I use occasionally. I also have a set of Ultra-Ramps; yellow steel with a plastic ramp that attaches to the leading edge so any of my lower cars can clear the bumper. The "stop" of the Ulra-Ramps is higher and neither I nor my kids have never overrun the...

Most amount of miles on vehicle u bought?

The old Volvo had 294K on the odo when I bought it (along with a 1 in. stack of service records for the car) Odo was broken for 7 years. One of the first things my son and I did was fix the odo by replacing a small plastic gear in the instrument cluster.

Most miles you had on a catalytic converter?

420K on the old volvo- the odometer was broken for 7 years just before I got the car and fixed it; I figure close enough to 500K. It is getting smog numbers close to max. No replacements on any of the other cars in my sig.

Oil change up-sell at LAPS PYB for Volvo 240

aquariascsm- I'm not sure how to respond to how "hot" she was- Appearance is subjective....and she reminded me a little of my granddaughter snagglefoot- I'm well aware of the benefits of synthetic oil- you'll note by my sig that all my other cars use syn.-just not this one.

Oil change up-sell at LAPS PYB for Volvo 240

Recently was at my local auto parts store and noticed their PYB 5 qt jugs on sale for less than $10 so I picked one upalong with some things for another car. Euro Cars Used to be Very Reliable

I have to weigh in here. As my sig reflects, I have some experience with the Audi and Volvo marques. The Volvo S60 has intermittent ABS light issues, intermittent fuel gauge nonfunction, rapid bulb burnouts, climate control module failure, damper door failure/breakage, very rough idle after a...

    Jobsite workplace slang

Many years ago as an 18y/o kid, I worked a summer as a painter's helper. My painter had a low opinion of the other tradesmen on the jobsite. " they's only two things you hafta know to be a plumber- stuff rolls downhill and payday's on Friday." Electricians fared little better- red and black are...

Are older Toyota trucks popular in Mexico?

I make frequent drives from Sacramento to San Diego area and have noticed something at least twice now on I5 going to LA area. A pair of the older, pre-Tacoma Toyota trucks traveling together, each towing another Toyota truck; beds filled with spare engines, radiators, etc. On the tailgate of...

Cheap Easy Soft Jaws for Vise

I've made some like that out of copper pipe, split down the middle to form a sheet. The duct tape is a good addition, too. I use magnetic "tape" that goes onto magnetic white boards glued to the back end of the jaw liner. Those are much prettier than mine, hammer formed over the vise jaws.
