It is more to do with the oil than the vehicle. I change at 5000 miles and it is very dark by about 2000 or so as well. I even add when and if it burns some. Still, the oil is fine.

I have to agree here. I have and recently sold a 1992 Acura Integra LS which isnt the same as your accord but any 30 went in it. I had did the 5W in the winter and 10W in the summer thing. Nice smooth engine that is easy on the oil. The 30 always worked well for me so, there is that.
