    One Oil for Three Vehicles

None; he didn’t recommend M1 0w40 because of cold climate, but because of the numerous manufacturer approvals and certification that it actually carries. It’s an oil that can pretty much be used in any gasoline engine in any conditions, without concern.

VOA - Total Quartz 0w20 INEO XTRA Dynamics - SN RC - 2023

Where are all the LSPI folks? I can’t believe nobody’s complained about the 2k+ Ca with only 6ppm Mg… Thanks for the VOA. What’s the cost per quart of this?

VOA - Total Quartz 0w20 INEO XTRA Dynamics - SN RC - 2023

How’s that? Oil analysis doesn’t establish an oil’s suitability for a given application. Certifications & approvals do.

Large hydro dams have shifted the earth's poles

Maybe, but is the sea level rising or the ground subsiding? It all depends on perspective. When I was a kid, my grandparents moved into a house on the Chesapeake Bay. At low tide, their seawall had several feet of sand exposed, and at high tide there was nearly 4.5’ of water depth at the...

    2024 Subaru WRX; Mobil 1 mixture 0w-20 0w-30, 2k mi

OP would be better off burning his $38 and asking a carnie during the county fair what his oil sample looked like than your first option. They’re so bad these days that the only reason they’re called a laboratory is because it’s the business’s proper name, NOT because you can trust their people...

New Red Line Oil High Performance 0W-20 and 0W-30 API SP elemental analysis

Can you share what Redline said, specifically? Because I asked, and they said they cannot provide any specifics about formulation changes.

New Red Line Oil High Performance 0W-20 and 0W-30 API SP elemental analysis

Redline is the only place who could tell you if the formula has changed. Nearly every “spec” sheet will use the disclaimer “typical specs” rather than “absolute” so they can always have an out in case some part of their typical blend is not available, or costs too much, etc. It’s why you can’t...

Oil Choice For New Honda 3.5L

M1 FS 0w40. It literally satisfies 95%+ recommendations for certifications or approvals for gas vehicles. If you want “fancy”, use one of the ESP line offerings.

Going to try an AC recharge kit, should I add oil or UV dye?

Consider replacing both the low and high side Schrader valves first, then have a competent shop recharge it. My Impreza hadn’t held a charge for a few years, and since I was not using it as my daily I tossed a couple cans of stop leak at it. My son has been driving it lately and it’s been a...

New Red Line Oil High Performance 0W-20 and 0W-30 API SP elemental analysis

Kinda irrelevant as this thread was started nearly 3 years ago. If you want consistent performance, the only place you’ll find that is the oil blender who doesn’t chase the cheapest component price in order to maximize profits. I’ll let you read some and come to your own conclusions since some...

Triax - It is the good, the bad, or the ugly?

Just say no. This is your brain: This is your brain if you believe all the unfounded, impossible-to-coexist specs that Triax wants you to believe they exceed (even though they can’t even prove they meet!): Just say no. Buy from a major blender, not some guy who claims to run a...

2019 Subaru Ascent oil cooler results… pretty impressive!

No, just doing some data-driven observations on the way to trying to solve the high fuel in my UOAs. Plus deciding that a few ppm of Cu in UOAs is less than harmless when weighing the benefits of the cooler being in place. I’ll add some more later.

2019 Subaru Ascent oil cooler results… pretty impressive!

4.8qts Just rolled 82k Nope, didn’t put that in. Couple reasons; have the potential fueling issue I’m waiting on the dealer to dig into, plus the number was pretty abysmal- my ‘19 F150 was within about 0.6mpg of the Ascent on the same trip. Only way I’ve ever seen close to rated highway MPG in...

2019 Subaru Ascent oil cooler results… pretty impressive!

Took the first “long” roadtrip in the Ascent, even though the wife has piled miles on like gas is free… 🤬 Anyways, went from near Muncie, IN to Yorktown VA via US-35 and I-64, ended up right at 1,450 miles round trip. Will be pulling UOA sample to see how dilution is doing since it was...

    Any Ravenol users here?

Before spending Ravenol money, check out some of the UOAs here. I used DXG, and although those were tested by Blackstone, subsequent tests by actual labs that use GCMS showed my truck had less than 1% fuel after 14.4k on HPL, but when I used Ravenol it had sheared well out of grade in just 6k...

Post milestone or just plain fun odometer pics!

That’s a 2.0 right (EJ205)? Those and the EJ255/257s are both closed-deck designs AFAIK (@Trav?), and do not suffer anywhere near as badly as the EJ251/253s did. One has to wonder which engineer got fired for that design error, saving about $17 per car in aluminum for a 60% failure rate, and...

Post milestone or just plain fun odometer pics!

It’s only half of @Revving2Redline’s odo shot, but it is an 2007 Impreza with an EJ253 on the original factory head gaskets… at 200k officially!
