    Spirax S4 in manual transmission?

Hey guys, I have a NV4500 manual transmission in my truck. It specs a synthetic GL4 for the fluid, which is next to impossible to find except at the dealer. The factory fluid is $30/qt from the dealer and I can get a 1 gallon pail for about $40 online (plus shipping). I was in Walmart...

    1998 Dodge van transmission sloppy

Thanks for the input guys. There are only a couple people who I would trust their advice, but I know them well enough to trust them anyway. I was told that the shop "replaced a part" when we got it, I'll look into what part it was. I'd assume it was the filter, but who knows. I'm the one in...

    1998 Dodge van transmission sloppy

I will try to get a look at it tomorrow, been a little while since I drove it. If I'm the only one in it, I can gauge it a little better. I'm assuming the converter change would be practically useless if the tranny is already slipping bad, right? Funny, I've never heard the term "slushbox" before!

    1998 Dodge van transmission sloppy

eww... that sounds like a "cheap fix" (sarcastic tone strongly implied) Are there any seal conditioners that are worth anything? We would like to get all the use we can out of it.

    Oil weight reccomendations.

I appreciate your replies, Three more questions for you... skellyman mentioned "the API donut" I am assuming that is a spec certification, correct? Second, in as simple as possible technical terms, cold weight aside, what is the difference @ operating temp, between SAE 30, and SAE 40 grade...

    1998 Dodge van transmission sloppy

Hey all, My church has a 1998? (it's between 96 and 2000) Dodge 1500 conversion van that we use as a bus. The transmission is shifting sloppy, and when cold, doesn't like to move. I got it up to temp and checked the fluid and its about 1/2 way up the hash marks. I was told that there was a part...

    Oil weight reccomendations.

ha, I was typing my reply and got 2 replies and an edit in the meantime! Anyway, what about using a synthetic? I'm always leery of using one that pours like water (like a 0-30), but if it does its job... In my purposes, what would be the difference between a 5w-30 and a 5w-40?

    Oil weight reccomendations.

I meant that I don't care if I lose a couple mpg if I increase longevity of the motor. Yes, I am running straight 30 grade (with a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil). I normally run 10-30 or 5-30, but I JUST changed head gaskets, and wanted something thicker in case any gasket material got left in...

    Oil weight reccomendations.

Hey guys, I'm running Rotella T SAE 30 in my truck right now, but what do you guys reccomend? I live in NY, during the winter I know I need to run a lighter oil like a 5-30. My drive to work is about 6 minutes, my truck is warm about 4-5 minutes into the drive, but on the way home (downhill...

    Greasing Suspension with different grease...

Hey guys, New to the site, I bought some Schaffers #274 Grade 2. I'm going to be using it on the suspension on my truck, and I was wondering if I need to somehow clean out the grease from my linkage (tierods and balljoints) before I put this in. If I can, I will push out all the old grease...
