    What is the point of 5w-40

    Hi All, As the title. Most 5w40 oils have a HTHS of 3.5 3.6 some 3.7 . 5w-30 A3/B4 and or C3 oil are also 3.5. What is the advantage of using an oil that has a higher kinematic viscosity, but the same HTHS. Seems pointless to me. I can understand that a HDEO 5w40 having a hths of 3.9 or 4.0...

    The successor of this engine the n62 is allowed to use ll01fe wich basicly is a5/b5 oil. Does anyone have a insight to what difference there is, making the n62 suitable for low hths oil?

    Just did the 5th oil change. So a uoa is useless I do my own oil change. Just saw the 60l barrel i use. I assumed it was ll01 5w40 last 2 years. I feel verry stupid.

    Hi all, I own a bmw x5 4.4 m62 . Just found out the oil used in the last 80.000km was a a5/b5 5w30. A ford oil also carrying the WSS-M2C913-D spec. The oil was changed every 20.000km. This oil choice was by mistake. Engine seems fine and runs great. Oil consumption is 1 liter every 6500km...

    no it does not anny mb 229.x or 228.x oils must meet hths 3.5 however this engine has demonstrated in the wear tests it can use it. as wear limits are identical

    hths limit for a5/b5 is not 2.6 for sae 20. it is 2.9 hths limit of 2.6 is only a1/b1 for sae 20 oils and 2.9 for sae 30 oils
