Just spent $344 at Jiffy Lube

I may not have been clear on a couple of points. The Pennzoil Platinum was $11.99/qt., not the transmission fluid. And yes, they sucked it out through the dipstick. I just looked at the O'Reilly website, and they are showing Pennzoil Platinum at $9.99/qt., so a $2 upcharge is maybe not so bad...

Just spent $344 at Jiffy Lube

But not my money. Also, this isn't a complaint, more of an observation, so please don't attack me for complaining. Anyway. I have a company truck that I drive, a 2015 Silverado 2500. I like it, it's nice, and it's nice not having to buy tires, gas, etc. to drive to work. The boss has a Jiffy...

Thought I'd never shave with a blade again

Not sure I'll need to try anything other than these Astra blades.

Thought I'd never shave with a blade again

On my last birthday, my youngest son bought me a little package from Bespoke Post containing a Maalim safety razor and accessories. I had sworn off safety razors decades ago, preferring disposables, and recently had been using a Norelco and not using blades at all. I was fine with the...

    Went to Jiffy Lube

Since I now have a company truck, I have to take it in for its maintenance. My employer has a Jiffy Lube account, so that's where I went. The OLM was at 4%, and the little light was flashing saying "change oil soon". It's a 2015 Silverado 2500. I walked in, and the guy said, "Hey, you're Bobby...

    "Safety" spouts on gas cans

I have several gas cans of varying capacities. They all have some strange combination of interlocks that must be twisted, pressed, or otherwise manipulated to release the gasoline. The main feature of all of them seems to be that, once you have figured out the proper sequence of manipulations...

    Tom Petty's 12-string

Fascinating (to me anyway) story from Mike Campbell about the guitar on the cover of "[censored] the Torpedoes." He plays parts of the song in the video, and it's just breathtaking.

My son is a Kentucky Colonel

Thanks to all. He was kind of a troubled kid, and I wasn't sure what would become of him. When he joined the Army, I wasn't sure how it would work out. It worked out fine, in the sense that he not only made it through boot camp, he became a pretty fast runner and more athletic than his old man...

My son is a Kentucky Colonel

My son just sent me a pic of his certificate. I didn't even know it was a thing, but when I saw the governor's a d Secretary of State's signatures, I figured I should look into it. To be clear, I have two sons and two daughters. The subject of this post is my older son, who is a disabled...

I didn't want to. However, my employer has hired a guy as my direct supervisor that I despise. I would say "hate", but I'm really trying not to hate him, hate isn't good. He's one of those guys that is just able to always have a negative slant to every conversation. Even if he tries to be...

Just spent 22 days in the hospital.

BobsArmory - glad to hear you're on the mend. I had pneumonitis (pneumonia/bronchitis) once, and it's the sickest I've ever been. Wasn't hospitalized, though, I spent about a week in bed, taking antibiotics and so on. Pretty weak for a while after that. I wish you the best.

    Salps

I saw an article online recently about a newly discovered ocean sunfish. I always thought the mola mola was pretty cool, after all, it eats jellyfish! Anyway, the "new" fish is called the Mola Tecta, and it can reach weights of more than two tons. In any case, the article said that the Mola...

    External wall faucet/spigot help

Generally speaking, hose bibs that look like that are threaded. However, I can't guarantee that, and I wouldn't want you to twist something off inside the wall. As far as getting the hose connector off, yeah, I'd cut it. Sometimes if you cut a slot in it, you can spread it enough with a...
