    Shell Rotella T6 5W40 CJ-4/SM vs CK-4

    CK-4 vs CJ-4

The economy part was more generalized for most new oils and pointing towards FA-4 which came along with CK-4. I know we could beat the Z/P requirements to death in a discussion as most "modern" diesels have no flat tappets/followers anymore but does the EPA and API have the interest at heart for...

    CK-4 vs CJ-4

API says CK4 is backwards compatible and better, Ford says its not.. Of course EPA pressures for better economy but is this at the expense of longevity and our pocketbooks?! Show me side by side tests comparing CJ-4 vs CK-4, not all this press material and I'll be the judge

    Best Diesel Engine Oil?

    Tool Review: Cen-Tech Battery Analyzer

Here's a bone for those of you that use the testers for agm storage batteries. I plotted all of the 12v agm batteries from PowerSonic's data sheets for internal resistance vs AH@20hr rate and used tablecurve 2d again to find the best linear equation of the data plot. I then entered in AH values...

    Tool Review: Cen-Tech Battery Analyzer

In case anyone is interested, I have plotted all of the resistance vs cca values from youtube videos and posts from various forums and have found a very close formula for calculating either of the two: uOhm^0.5=a+b/CCA^0.5 where a=-0.02619139 and b=54.87169871

    Shell RT6, 5w-40, 21,466mi, 06 GMC Duramax

I bought my 07 with 20k on it and my first two oil changes filled it with M1 TDT, UOA at ~10k miles, copper was VERY high. Something in the M1 TDT leaches the copper from the oil cooler. Then I switched to T6 and it went back to normal.

Mobil 1 TDT 5W40, 9.3k Miles, 2.5 years in Duramax

I had high Cu on a couple 10k changes with Mobile 1 TDT on my 07 DMax, dumped it for Rotella T6, Cu went back to normal and consumption reduced as well. I had been a fan of Mobile 1 Synth for all my prior gas vehicles but the TDT oil left a sour taste in my mouth.

Ok to make custom Rotella blend?

Thanks for the information everyone.. dnewton3, I had thought the hash marks on the stick were approximately 1qt per mark, if what you say is true then I am about the third hash down now at 8k miles "1.5qts"? Thats not bad at all. From all that I've read here I know I would be absolutely fine...

Ok to make custom Rotella blend?

I have an 07 Silverado Classic "LBZ" Duramax with 48k miles on the ticker now. Bought it when it had 20k and switched to Mobile TDT 5w-40 oil. Ran it for 10k miles, was about 3 quarts low even though this is in spec for oil consumption on these engines and had high copper count "oil cooler". At...

I switched my oil from the original owner's 5k OCI of Rotella 15w-40 at 20k miles to M1 TDT 5w-40. After 10k miles I changed and sent in smaple to Blackstone. I had 554ppm Cu! My 30-40k mile change had 125ppm Cu, still high but falling rapidly. I think the add pack in the M1 probably cause alot...
