Good filtration and good flow rate (4Runner V8)

Those old Toyota ones were Denso, I think. I wish I had bought more but at the time, I did not think I would keep the vehicle this long. I never cut one open but I heard they were synthetic media and very good for longer OCIs. The K&N does look good (around $10 online) but I'll check out the...

Good filtration and good flow rate (4Runner V8)

Hey guys, I am running out of my original (made in Japan) filters for my 2005 V8 4Runner and those are not available anymore. The current Toyota filter seems to be decent but I am wondering if there are better options that provide good filtration efficiency and good flow. Are you guys using...

Oil advice for high mileage Toyota 4Runner 4.7 V8

I have been using Royal Purple HPS 5W30 on mine (165,000 miles) and it does really well. I used Pennsoil Ultra (SM and SN) before that. I'm now switching to Amsoil Signature 5W30 now. It has never burned any oil nor given me any problems. The oil never even looks particularly black or smells odd...

    Beloved Highlander sold, Tundra hunting....

You likely have no transmission dipstick. It probably is like my 2005 V8 4Runner...sealed transmission. Just do drain/fills as needed. There is a specific process to follow. My V8 has 145,000 on it and I love it. I get ~18-19 mpg unless I drive 55-60, and then I get ~21. I'm keeping it since it...

    15K oil & filter

I'm planning on running Amsoil Signature for 10,000-12,000 miles starting in October. That should easily get me through the winter. I have no work commute but do mostly weekend driving to the mountains for skiing and snowshoeing. I considered Mobil 1 EP but decided to try Amsoil this time. I'll...

Bought Pennzoil Ultra SM by mistake

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help and advice. Too bad Pennzoil discontinued the Ultra SN. Maybe by the time I run out, they will bring it back.

Bought Pennzoil Ultra SM by mistake

I see that Valvoline does not publish any expiration or shelf-life timing either. I think I'll just do a 5,000 OCI with these and get two oil changes out of them, while keeping a close eye on anything unusual, which I doubt I could notice anyway but I do know that the oils starts to go darker at...

Bought Pennzoil Ultra SM by mistake

The bottles are 6 years old. The bottles seem to have been in a box and not stored in sunlight. Hopefully, oil or add packs do not deteriorate too much in that time.

Bought Pennzoil Ultra SM by mistake

I was up late and saw 12 bottles on eBay so I bought them for my 2005 Toyota 4Runner. I have 12 SN bottles already but the V8 2005 4Runner takes 7 quarts so figured why not. Anyway, it turns out that these are SM (2010) and not SN. Is the SM oil okay for 5K-6K at least? Should I go less and keep...

    Ramps for oil change

I use the grey Rhino ramps for my 4Runner (Jeep is lifted and needs no ramps) and I also block the rear wheels and put heavy duty jack stands under the frame...just in case. I have done this for ten years.

Drained the battery by mistake- cold weather

Oh, the Schumacher Speedcharge is the only one I am aware of, besides the smaller auto store ones.

Drained the battery by mistake- cold weather

Well, good thing I did not pick up a charger yet. If there are any recommendations, I am all ears. I will start carrying the jumper cables and charger when we go skiing or on trips.

Drained the battery by mistake- cold weather

So I managed to get it started (but took 7-8 mins of waiting) eventually...waited for it to charge slightly. I drive around for 30-40 miles on the highway and it seemed to charge up a bit. Not wanting to take a chance, I broke down and went to a local NAPA and got one of their NAPA brand...

Drained the battery by mistake- cold weather

We are at the ski resort and mistakenly left my keys in the ignition (ON position) so this morning the battery is obviously dead. Temps dropped close to 0 degrees. The original Toyota battery has been great and has been starting quickly in these temps the last few days. First time I have done...

Buying a used Lexus RX300 (Oil gelling question)

Since it is an impounded vehicle, I have no idea about maintenance. I can get the VIN and ask my dealership buddy to run it, but that is all I can get. The only way I think I can make an offer is IF they let me take the vehicle to my friend at the Lexus dealership.

Buying a used Lexus RX300 (Oil gelling question)

Kinda needs to be a hatchback/wagon with fold-flattish seats. Love the pictures, though the first glance kind freaked me out.

Buying a used Lexus RX300 (Oil gelling question)

Oh, I am not sure if they will let me take it to the dealership. I will ask though, and it is the only way I will make an offer. Good input and it helps a lot, so thanks for all the feedback. Besides the CRV, Rav4, Forester, and Outback, I didn't have too many ideas for a reliable...

Buying a used Lexus RX300 (Oil gelling question)

Yea, he didn't sound like an especially friendly guy when I called anyway. If I go, I will ask that he let me check it out. my buddy at the Lexus dealership can help....will ask him too. You guys make a good point about the potential condition of the car with owners possibly not taking care of...
