    High Performance Pickup Diesels

No problem at all on going off topic...I love a good diesel discussion! I may have to give Schaeffers a try if the Redline doesn't really improve my oil analysis. I've been using Delvac 1 5W-40, but it just can't stand up to this engine in it's current configuration. On the flip side, my dad...

    High Performance Pickup Diesels

I'm interested in what type of oil and filters some others are using in their high-performance pickup diesels. Terry is helping me greatly to get the wear metals down in my Duramax, but I'm just curious about the subject. My Duramax is running approximately 400 RWHP as a daily driver, and...

    FP60 diesel MPG increases

Terry, As per your recommendations, I've been running it for the past 7,000 miles now, and I can't discern any appreciable mileage increases or decreases. While I hardly performed a controlled experiment, my real-world experience is that FP60 isn't a huge fuel mileage increaser. Hope this...

    Donaldson Sources

Can anyone help me source Donaldson filters? My local parts stores either have no idea what I'm talking about or want $16 per filter with a minimum order of 12. The part # I need is P550518. Thanks for the help!

Is Delo 15w40 THAT much better than Rotella 15w40?

Yep, Costco is a good place to get Delo. Most NAPA's carry Valvoline Premium Blue. I like Mobil 1300 for a dino 15-40 as well. Certainly shouldn't go wrong with Rotella. I think most Wal-Marts are now carrying Rotella in 5 gallon jugs.

    Kubota Diesel

You got it Gurkha! This engine must have been really overheated by the previous owners, and that's why it was traded with so few hours on it. Ah...buying used equipment is always so much fun...

    Kubota Diesel

Bad news guys! The consumption is high because this engine is in dire straits. It's ingesting a lot of coolant along with the oil based on the last UOA. I got hosed by the previous owner! Such is life...

Delvac 1 in '04 LLY Duramax

I don't think it went to the Portland lab because the pre-addressed mailer said "Atlanta Laboratory." So Staveley has multiple labs?

Delvac 1 in '04 LLY Duramax

So are they a reputable lab? Also, please note that I'm putting approximately 360 horsepower to the ground and routinely pull a trailer. I think I've got an engine that's wearing nicely at this point in its life (not fully broken in). Further analysis will tell much more I'm sure. The iron...

Delvac 1 in '04 LLY Duramax

Here are the results of my first-ever UOA, and I need some help interpreting the results! I sent another sample to Blackstone and am having Terry Dyson offer his advice, but this sample was done by Staveley Fluids Analysis. (This is NAPA oil analysis lab.) 9633 miles on oil 19670 miles on...

    NAPA Oil Analysis

Thanks guys. The NAPA kits are $13.50 at my local store. For this price, I don't think they test for TBN. I'll do one for the heck of it just to see how it turns out.

    NAPA Oil Analysis

Has anyone used NAPA's oil analysis service which sends the samples to the Atlanta Lab? I'll be doing my first ever oil analysis, and my local NAPA dealer sells these kits. He's a great parts guy, and says he's had very good luck with these kits. Also, if I don't have the actual sample bottles...

    Kubota Diesel

Mine has 200 hours on it...I bought it used with 125 hours on it. I'm thinking the synthetic 5-40W is the culprit as far as the consumption goes.

    Kubota Diesel

I've got a few gallons of the Mobil 1300, so I might just try that. What kind of consumption is "normal" for these engines?

    Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme

I'm currently using Delvac 5-40W in my Duramax, but I'm considering trying something else to see if oil consumption goes down. I'll be sending my first sample of Delvac in for analysis shortly, as it has about 9,000 miles on it right now. Not counting make-up oil for a filter change at 5,000...

    Kubota Diesel

I'm running a Grasshopper commercial lawn mower this summer with a 28 HP Kubota diesel. The owner's manual states that I should be using a CD or CF type oil in 10-30 or 10-40 grade. Since these specs are obviously outdated (the manual states that any more current rating is also acceptable)...

Mobil SHC Gear Lube in Eaton G80

Is anybody successfully using the SHC series in a GM G80 rearend such as those found in 2500HD pickups? I'm having zero issues using the Mobil 1 "regular" formula, and I see no reason to switch. I'm just wondering if anybody is using industrial-type E500 spec lube without damaging the G80.

Would like to learn more about diesels

Oh, and P.S. I agree that totally mechanical engines are probably more reliable, definitely easier to work on, and are longer lived. However, we're not going to be able to drive them forever--like it or not, they're dying out, and they're going to be extinct before long. I also agree that the...

Would like to learn more about diesels

Many of you guys will probably laugh at me then! I'm a sophomore in college, and I drive a Chevy Duramax 3/4 ton pickup. I do pull a trailer, but not that often. I feel that I take excellent care of my vehicles, and I think I know how to treat a diesel correctly. I try to avoid short trips...

    Duramax Oil Consumption

Thanks Bill! I saw those a while back on the avlube website, but I didn't know how well they worked. They do a good job, though? If memory serves me correctly, you drive a D-Max too, right? What do you think about this deal? As I mentioned, I was having a hard time getting consistent readings...
