Engine Oil degradation study : Tribological Assessment paper

Haven’t gotten the chance to read all citations. Was this conventional oil? It was tested using turbo charged vehicle. So there’s that, too.

When out of warranty, will you up to their SS ATF? Never brown even with a 66k interval once on my Fit; though I've scaled that back to 40k.

    Champ / Luber-Finer PH2867XL - wouldn't spin on

? Not entirely true. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/champ,PH2867XL,oil+filter,5340 Though, it seems to be Champ made is now something to be avoided. Sad.

    Another oil from Valvoline…

Saw it on the shelf at my local WM but the price wasn’t listed. Typical WM 🤣 but the app shows it “on sale” for $29.99 PS: yes, that is a chicken head.

    2019 Toyota Highlander 3.5 V6 2GR-FKS, 24.3k mi; Amsoil XL 0W20, 6.4k mi

Iirc, this SS Amsoil is 8.9 starting virgin. So, it appears to not have begun thickening even at 1 year despite short trips. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/amsoil-signature-series-0w-20.366584/

The truth about oil change intervals and analysis

For knowledgeable OCI enthusiasts, this video isn’t for you. For ignorant, forgetful, or otherwise uninterested car owners; an overkill recommendation followed half the time (equating to 6k mile OCIs in practice)…in that context the video recommendations (sadly yet admittedly) is a necessity...

High mileage Hyundai Elantra for all the haters.

It is my understanding that the 2017 and 2018 2.0l engines weren’t in the known series of engines failures prior and post those years. At least for the Elantra and that engine size.

Amsoil 0w20 SP - Kurt Orbahn Shear Stability

The viscosity index basically didn’t move either. Though, I’m not sure if the test method has as much a meaningful impact on the VII when looking at operating viscosity?

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

2007 Honda Fit (currently 323k miles) Sport A/T Original engine and transmission I would post pictures, but it’s got a lot of body damage from a couple wrecks (neither my fault) it’s just I can’t afford to get it fixed. Still, it’s been reliable and I’m gonna drive it until the wheels fall off...

    2020 Subaru Legacy 2.5L / M1 EP 0w20 / 20,799 mile OCI

A prime contributing factor. Important to continue using a high efficiency oil filter if the air filter is being tested by dirty or dusty roads, IMO. And definitely worth inspecting for loose or odd fitting connections along the intake to rule out unfiltered air.

    2020 Subaru Legacy 2.5L / M1 EP 0w20 / 20,799 mile OCI

Most here would recognize outside of those two, M1 EP is generally considered the best off-shelf oil for extending OCIs. So, while not a boutique blender it is basically M1’s boutique offering. At least, that’s my impression of it. I wouldn’t run many off the shelf oils past 10k miles...

    Fram Endurance FE10575 C&P

And would one want more passes of unfiltered debris during a cleaning? I would think not. Hence, the higher efficiency coupled with shorter interval? 🙂

post your latest transmission lubricant change.

Smooth as ever. Of course, I didn’t have many miles on previous fluid before swapping to Amsoil back in 2015; a few months after acquiring vehicle. That’s when I had a shop perform the cooler line flush over to Amsoil; swapping the external filter, too. However, there is no way to know if it...
