    Ramps for spraying rust proofing

Has anyone tried these? I have Rhino ramps but would like to get up higher. They are not crazy expensive.

Disaster at Camp Mistic - cheap flood alarm

But this is the same kind of flooding NC had a year ago. If it rains 6" in a V shaped area (hilltop to hilltop) the people at the bottom of the V (valley) will get a lot more than 6" of water. Disappointing that FEMA and their flood maps are backward looking rather than looking towards the...

    Woolwax or Krown?

Some need to worry about the rubber vacuum hose going to front differential for 4WD Ford pickup deteriorating from rustproofing spray. Ask me how I know?

    Woolwax or Krown?

There are other products besides Woolwax and Krown that Trav and others think are better. But cannot remember. NH Coatings make a thick brush on product you can use on areas of your truck where there is a lot of road spray. Then spray on normal products for the rest of the areas.

Used Snap-on PolarTek A/C Machine- worth buying?

I think there is more to servicing your car's A/C than just buying a A/C service machine. There is training and other tools needed. It takes up space. Most car A/C system work without any need for service for many years assuming no accidents. If the A/C needs service then probably...

Disaster at Camp Mistic - cheap flood alarm

If I was a parent I would say I don't care if it was a once in a million years fash flood, my child died and the state/county/camp should have handled things better.

Disaster at Camp Mistic - cheap flood alarm

My idea of a local alarm is to wake people up to go out and look. They can decide to evacuate or not. But evacuating to safety here only meant having the young girls walk up the hill to the older girls cabins. Maybe the alarm switch is near the cabins for the young girls. If the water...

Disaster at Camp Mistic - cheap flood alarm

I disagree. I think it's part of a review of what they did wrong and what they did right to plan for the future so hopefully it does not happen again. If I ran a camp along that river I would be very interested in installing my own $100 flood alert system until the county or state gets their...

Disaster at Camp Mistic - cheap flood alarm

I know hindsight is always 20/20. For $100 the camp could have installed a boat bilge pump switch near the ground connected to a boat horn or some weatherproof 12V siren and an AGM battery 20' up a tree or telephone pole. AGM battery would have easily stayed charged over the summer. They...

    Rate my plumbing work

Professional plumbers won't guarantee their work if they are pushed to use a Sharkbite fitting. What's wrong with CPVC?

Have you checked the tank's air fill on the top of the tank? If you press in the pin in the core does air or water come out when the pump shuts off? If water comes out the bladder is shot. Maybe all it needs is an air recharge. The pressure gauges don't seem to last forever. Get a new one...

What do you folks use for rear brake calipers?

A C-clamp is fine unless you need to rotate the piston to get it back in. When you have multiple pistons I often use an old brake pad to push both pistons back at the same time.

    Dryer Vent Extension

We have a service contract for our HVAC. They come 2X a year for two complete systems for $350. Clean things. Look for things like a capacitor starting to bulge. And if we keep the service contract and parts needed during the 10 year Trane warranty are installed at no cost And if a problem...

    Deck stained after rain

From a friend who is a biologist. I think the brown (tannic) stains are coming from rain drops off bark-- large branches. Those drops leach tannins from the grooved bark and also pick up small bits of dirt, insect bits, bird poop, etc. which would account for some of the tiny solids embedded...

Outdoor electrical box with snapped screws.

It's actually not a lamp post. There is a spot light about 2" above the box. All the power to the box is controlled by a blank GFI inside the house. So I know when it's off and have checked with a non conducting voltage tester. The initial reason I took things apart is the GFI is popped. At...

Outdoor electrical box with snapped screws.

I have one and might try. But an outlet screw is small. Not much room for error.
