5w20 verses 5w30 in other countries without cafe.

Here is a link to 2014 Camry owners manual sold in Russia: http://content.toyota.ru/catalogues/manual/Camry/mc-camry_full-om.pdf Look at page 422 - The U.S. Camry specifies 0W20 only. The same Camry with the same engine in Russia calls for a variety of oils from 0W20 to 20W50!

5w20 verses 5w30 in other countries without cafe.

Here is the link to 2011 Camry owners manual for Russian market - same 2AR-FE engine as in US: http://en.calameo.com/read/003785165f702b64c1cc1 Look at page 274 for engine oil specifications - in addition to 0W20 is specifies other grades as well up to 20W50! Granted, this manual for 2011...

    0W20 Toyota oil requirement

I emailed Toyota Customer care asking why 0W20 is the only oil recommended in the U.S. while other countries allow 5W30, 10W30 etc. Here is their response. Not very helpful: Recently you contacted Toyota. Below is a summary of your contact message and our response. Thank you for allowing us to...

    0-W20 to 5-W30 swtich

Do you have cold start piston slap noise which is common for this gen Camry? If you do, switching to 5w30 will eliminate this annoying noise. I switched my 2015 LE and have no issues to report while the piston slap noise is gone.

    0W20 Toyota oil requirement

Yes, this is true, the heavier oil will just muffle it. I changed to 5w30 M1 and the noise is practically gone. I did test drive 2 other new Camry's and one Rav4 yesterday and they had the same piston slap as mine on the factory fill oil. Does Toyota put 0w20 in at the factory?

    0W20 Toyota oil requirement

No, only 0w20 in the manual. It does allow 5w20 but says you have to change it to 0w20 during the next oil change

    0W20 Toyota oil requirement

So does anybody know what is so special about the current "0W20 ONLY" Toyota Camry oil requirement? I just got 2015 Camry that has only this oil specified, and I wanted to switch to 5W30 Mobil 1 Synthetic to quiet down the cold stat piston slap that is apparently "normal" for this engine. I hate...

    2012 Prius C

I just test drove one, and it is nice, but the road noise/wind noise, especially at speeds over 70 mph is WAY to much, in fact, you cannot really talk to the rear passengers without raising your voice at 75 MPH. My 2011 Prius had the same problem, but after installing 3 sheets of dynapad under...

My Aunt from Poland has a Chevy.

I had Matiz when I lived in Russia, and it was actually not that bad. It had enough power for in-town driving, and the legal speed limit in Russia is 90 km/h. Matiz did just fine at 100 - 110 km/h, a little bouncy, but overall not too bad

I Guess My Car Is In Good Health

Just looked at your maintenance log - are you running 89 octane gas in it? I thought Prius calls for 87? Any benefit from 89?

Any experience with Dynamat products? I read a lot of great reviews on the web and thinking about doing my 2010 corolla - doors, floors and trunk, trying to make it quieter at highway speeds...

    2011 Prius - first impression

This is strange, my father in law has 09 Prius and I find it not as smooth as 2011. I cannot hear when my ICE starts up, only under heavy acceleration.

    2011 Prius - first impression

Just purchased a 2011 Prius last week and wanted to share my impression after just 500 miles of driving: 1. The interior is more refined than our 2010 Corolla, the seat fabric is better and does not attract lint as much as Corolla. More storage compartments. 2. The ride is quiet, but not any...

2011 Toyota Prius or something else?

WOW, was it $21K out the door? I did all research through internet and e-mail by e-mailing to about 50 dealerships in 250mi range and asking for OTD quotes. Then I selected the best quotes and let these dealers compete with each other. The best I could get was $23,000.00 OTD but from the dealer...

Engine rattle at startup - Toyota REFUSES to fix

I guess it depends a big deal on the regional rep / specific dealer you have to deal with. I had a very faint transmission whine while accelerating between 55 and 60 mph in my 2010 Corolla, and at first my dealer said it was "normal". We even test drove another corolla and it was doing the same...
