The backorder situation seems completely out of hand right now

I worked for a major auto glass manufacturer for nearly 20 years. Our biggest OEM customer by far wanted a price cut. Not unusual, but they wanted it retroactive back to the beginning of the year. Yep, they wanted my company to write them a check of several million dollars for parts that we...

The backorder situation seems completely out of hand right now

I was a QE as well. Customer; "We are rejecting these parts for excessive flash and mismatch. We can't ship those to our customer" Supplier: " Your mold parting lines and core need to be refurbished" Customer; "Don't ship us any more like that. Can't you just trim it off? " Supplier; Now...

The backorder situation seems completely out of hand right now

Agree 100%. I spent my career working in QC for auto suppliers. It is a very tough industry. I retired a few years ago from a manufacturing plant that did injection molding. Service parts were a requirement, but could be very problematic. We had molds we inherited from a previous supplier...

    Good experience at Discount Tire

DT has been my preferred tire store for many years. Always get good service and they will meet or beat other prices. I ended up buying the biography of the founder, Bruce Halle since the very first store of his was somewhat local. Not sure if this is still true, but at one time everyone...

Mitsubishi stores get scarcer as brand cuts low performers and ‘fed up’ dealers walk away

TV commercial here lately from a local mega dealer selling Mitsubishi and other brands. Man is in a parking lot when a woman compliments him on his Outlander Hybrid and asks him what it is. He replies "It's a Mitsubishi. They are Japanese like a Toyota but cheaper" He then tells her it's a...

Replace tires only or buy the assembly?

I've done it before, but pretty challenging and frustrating. Breaking the beads isn't easy and then getting the new beads to seat with a new collapsed tire brings it to a higher level. Not sure I would do it again, but already have the tire levers, so who knows?

Post your latest small engine oil change

Cub Cadet XT1 46" with Kohler 7000 22 hp twin. First oil change at 5.0 hours using Kohler 10w-30 branded oil and filter. B & S powered 550EX MTD push mower. Drained and filled with fresh B & S SAE 30 along with new spark plug. Overfilled it a tad, so tipped it again and let a little drain back out.

What was your most embarrassing and dumb auto repair mistake?

I have a few of them. 1) 1973 Capri. When I was 22 with little knowledge I decided to add a real oil pressure gauge because "idiot lights" were for idiots. It was a mechanical gauge with a nylon hose and compression fittings. A few days later, the compression fitting came apart and engine...
