    Question on Oil Filter Magnets

Regarding those minute particles that are caught by the magnets and held against the inside of the filter can, is that size particle normally caught by the filter element but was caught by the magnet PRIOR to going thru the element? It would be interesting to see how much metal is still in the...

    Question on Oil Filter Magnets

Got a 1 yr old Subaru Forester and was wondering if placing a magnet on the oil filter would be of any value. I haven't been able to find any definitive info on whether they are worth the money. Has anyone here tried them? Thanks

Oil pressure drop with synthetic oil

Got a 2009 Dodge Ram, 5.7 Hemi with 15,000 miles. Have been running Q.S. Advanced Durability dino oil, 15w-20. Changed to Pennzoil Platinum, 15w-20 and now the oil pressure dropped from 58 to 53 lbs immediately after start up. When it warms up, it only dropped from 49 to 48 lbs. Filter is the...

Is it better to fill up to the high mark?

The factory engineers put a MAX line on the dipstick for a reason. Why do so many people think they are smarter than the engineers? Race engine builders go to great lengths to make sure the crank does not get into the oil and cause drag. Just fill the crankcase, leaving out about 1/2 qt. Start...

Would like your help with choice of oil.

You won't believe this but the wife kept telling me to buy a truck. Our Camry would have trouble sometimes getting up the driveway when we would get heavy snow (like the last 2 record setting years. So I get the truck last Aug and we have only received 6-8 inches of snow this year). So a 4WD was...

Would like your help with choice of oil.

With a new motor where the oil and filter (and the air filter) will be changed at regular intervals, is there any chance of sludge buildup with dino oil vs. synthetic or semi-syn?

Forgot about that. Is there any benefit to using a syn blend?

Would like your help with choice of oil.

I would like to get the input of the forum members on the oil I should use. 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi. Bought new, now has 6000 miles. Driving consists of 2-3 trips into town a week, 20 miles one way...all highway. Never any short trips. I drive easy and do not abuse this truck as I want it to...

Will changing oil BRANDS hurt the engine?

I currently use PP 5-20 in my 2009 Ram Hemi. Got the oil when it was on sale. Would it hurt to change oil brand as long as it's still a quality synthetic? As oil sales and rebates come and go, I would like to take advantage of them. I just don't want to have any problems with changing brands.

Oil weight question for 2009 Challenger

It amazes me that so many people think the factory engineers don't know what they are doing. I'm sure the factory has done extensive research on finding the best wt oil for their application. Why would they recommend an oil wt that wouldn't give the best results? And I love how some people...

    Why is paper better

Just bought a 2009 Dodge Ram, Hemi. I found this website and have been reading a lot about oil, oil filters and air filters. I have looked at these topics with a very open mind and not set on any one philosophy. I have my own ways of doing things based on 45 yrs of working on cars, boats, planes...

Anyone use an engine pre-lube device?

Just wondering if anyone uses one of these? Since a considerable amount of wear occurs when the engine is started and the oil pressure is not up to specs, these devices seem like a good way to prevent wear until the oil pressure comes up.
