    Brad Penn/Redline 20W-50, 1,000/1,282 miles, P 911

Thanks for the comments. I think the term 'drivers education' is a bit misleading (it keeps the insurance companies happy). I am running 25 minute sessions in a car with full race suspension, tires, and safety equipment at about mid-pack race qualifying pace. It is not the total thrashing of a...

I was thinking I would just use the 20W-50. I think it has very good ZDDP numbers. rickdm

Two oil analysis, both done at a little over 1,000 miles on a 1987 911 used mostly for drivers education events on the track + the driving back and forth. Similar driving for both. The Redline had half a bottle of GM EOS added with about 100 miles to go, so I don't think it affected the wear...

    Redline 20W-50+GM EOS 1,000 miles 1987 Porsche 911

Glen, I was also wondering about how bad the iron numbers were. I have seen others on this forum with worse numbers and no comment. I assume the iron must be coming off of the rings and cams. 1,000 miles is seven track days at 2 hours per day, so 14 total hours. I thought that would be...

    Redline 20W-50+GM EOS 1,000 miles 1987 Porsche 911

I do my instructing at either Motorsports Ranch in Cresson, or Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur. I have gone to 911 Enterprises quite a bit. I use them for routine maintenace, and Jim Buckley in Ft. Worth for racing prep and the engine rebuild. Both have done a great job. Perhaps RL has enough...

    Redline 20W-50+GM EOS 1,000 miles 1987 Porsche 911

This is a car with 70,000 miles, but the engine was rebuilt 4,000 miles ago. Old cylinders, but new rings and bearings. Most of the miles are track miles at Drivers Education events. I am an instructor so they tend to be pretty hard miles. The car has high performance valve springs. About 800...

    MINI Cooper S Question

I also have a Mini Cooper S. Would you would recommend Mobil 0W-40 over GC 0W-30 for a car that the manufacturer suggests 5W-30W. I have read that GC is on the high end of viscosity, but surely it is not as thick as Mobil 1 0W-40? rickdm
