How hard (and dear) would it be to open a UOA lab?

In my area (north of Spain) car racing is very popular. I know people that spend fortunes in racing cars and equipment but none of those I spoked with about UOA ever heard about it. After talking with a few of those guys, they all think it's a great idea and that it'd be great to have a...

Should I change oil after one year and 3500 km?

Hi all. The user's manual of my 1998 Honda Deauville NT650 states: "oil and filter must be replaced after one year or 12.000 km" I only made 3500 km in the last year. Should I replace right now or can I wait to make some more km? I thought that maybe that statement is valid for old oils but...

Synthetic power steering fluid as a problem solver

My steering is not in it's best moment. It's OK most of the time, but sometimes when I'm parking it gets really hard, specially downhill when the weight is on the front end. Having 285/75/16 tires doesn't help I believe. It gets worse when it's hot. Would you try a complete fluid change to...

    Diesel-rated 5w30

Yes, I always heard that, but, is it really noticeable?. I have to ask my father if he notices any MPG decrease after a while using the 5-40 compared with the 5-30. Are there any figures, like the average MPG gain from 5-40 to 5-30 is X%, and so on? Would it be any MPG by going from 5-40 to...

    Diesel-rated 5w30

It will be interesting to know. What are your reasons to go from 0-40 to 5-30?. In my father's BMW 330XD, they had been putting Castrol Edge 5-30, last week it reached 160.000 km, the mechanic recommended moving up to Motul 5-40 (also fully synthetic LL04 like the Castrol) as he thought 5-30...

    Diesel-rated 5w30

I don't know if applies in your case, but I've read about BMW diesels that run for a while with the recommended oil by BMW (Castrol Edge 5-30), then move up to 5-40 or 5-50 (Mobil 1 5-50 is very popular between the overpowered diesel owners), and then if they go back to 5-30 they get oil...

Fluid for a GM A5S390R transmission in a BMW.

Thank you guys. Transynd is available, but it's incredibly expensive, I could replace it with Castrol Transmax Z, wich, according to Castrol, is very similar to Transynd. This is cheaper but still very expensive. Believe it or not, Dexron VI is still a rare thing in Spain and some mechanics...

Problems caused by SHPD+ oils in a car engine?

Thank you Rollins. So that statement doesn't make sense to you?. I had read in some other places that some oils doesn't start to lubricate properly until they have a certain amount on use on them, but I can't see how a new oil is going to have a bad lubrication.

Fluid for a GM A5S390R transmission in a BMW.

Hello everyone. My father has a BMW 330XD with a GM transmission, the A5S390R. For what I know, this transmission has proven to be reliable in petrol BMW and in some Cadillac and other GM vehicles, but, when mounted in 6 cylinder BMWdiesel, it's been really bad. BMW did an awful election with...

Problems caused by SHPD+ oils in a car engine?

Thank you all for the replies. It seems like it's not an issue to worry about for using SHPD+ oils then. I had asked a similar question in this same forum when I was researching about the Texaco Ursa Super TD a while ago, and got the same answer, sorry for that, I had forgotten about that...

Problems caused by SHPD+ oils in a car engine?

I'm using Texaco URSA Super TD 15W-40 in my car. A 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser with a 4.2 Turbo Diesel Engine. This oil is rated API CI-4, is more or less the equivalent of Chevron Delo 400 15W-40W for the spanish market (Delo is not available here). I use this oil even though it's recommended...

Do these tables still apply with synthetic fluids?

You know there are some others like these. I mean, do these temperature lifespans apply with synthetic fluids, or even with modern fluids? I guess, since these tables are easily found on transmission cooler manufacturers that are interested in giving you the worst perspective, that they are...

ATF exchange done. What did I miss?

Thanks a lot guys. So it seems I didn't do it as bad as I thought. I was thinking I had been mixing old and new oils all the time. Anyway, I really should have added new fluid as the new one was being pumped out insted of doing it by 2 liters each time. The Amsoil write that dsmish41 posted...

ATF exchange done. What did I miss?

So I tried to follow the intructions for a complete ATF replacement, but I think I did something wrong. I bought a 20 liters can of Castrol Transmaz Z, the most recommended fluid for my transmision. (It's a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser with a fully hydraulic automatic transmission) That should...

Transmax, Transynd, Autran, all the same product?

Reply from Castrol UK: Castrol Transmax Z is essentially the same formulation used globally however the UK grade does not have the addition of the green dye and, although performing to Dexron III requirements, does not carry the official Dexron III approval. The reason for this is that this...

Land Cruiser 80 - Diff and Trans oil suggestions?

Hello Ringmaster. I have a Land Cruiser 80, too. There is a guy in Australia called Rodney, from Wholesale automatics. He's the biggest expert in Land Cruiser transmissions in the world. No doubt about that. I've been in contact with him and he recommends fully (and make sure it's fully)...
