    Battery memory savers still needed?

Should i invest in one? Or will it just sit in the toolbox I'm a DIY home wrencher now. Mainly small group of friends and family. I recently did a battery install for a friend with a honda fit. Tiny battery but simple job. Everything went well minus radio code. Went thru the whole glove...

Audi/VW pinch bolts for upper control arm.

thanks guys... i'll recommend them do both uppers on each side so 4 arms altogether. I'll order up the pinch bolt and nut from dealership. What are your thoughts on brands? I"m not familiar with MEYLE ($100 per) and VAICO ($150 per) off FCP or Suspensia, Mevotech Supreme or Moog for $50ish...

Audi/VW pinch bolts for upper control arm.

I'm going to be tasked with some upper arms on a Q5 shortly, its a 2018 model but has been in the rust belt it entire life. Looks like instead of a normal A arm and a single ball joint, its 2 arms with ball joints that are held on by a pinch bolt. Germans... Tons of people are saying either...

    Home DIYer scan tool.

I've been looking for a scantool myself as an upgrade. I currently have the Autel AL619, mainly got it to do clear airbags codes. But the A30M is kinda high on my list being at $200ish. I need something to do battery coding on BMW and rear brake jobs for the ones with E-parking brakes. If...

I spent about 1.5 hours JUST TO inserting brake pads into a brand new caliper. Do I need to redo it again? A few queries.

Real shops use a sand/media blaster on the bracket. Us DIY people normally don't have that luxury, i normally wire wheel the best i can. Sometimes its not enough. I know the Duralast Gold pads normally have so much overspray on the ears that it makes it an issue But you have the element 3...

    Tire Dismount / Re-Mount Prices - Ugh!

I would say turnover is similiar to anything in the retail/ Customer service roles. I agree that i hate 3-4 people working on the car at the same time because now its finger pointing to who did what. But those guys are general laborers. You do the role in your teens-20s and/or until your...

    Tire Dismount / Re-Mount Prices - Ugh!

I'm pretty resourceful when looking around for best prices. Ive mounted and balanced some tires in my dad and whole process does take over an hour from time the car comes in to drive out. But generally, I've come to accept, 4 tires installed will be $80-120. Normally i see $100 being the very...

Suggest pads for a mk7 GTI

Both collaborate with one another and take sponsorships. Not really a great reason. I like both guys and what they are doing for the VAG community but end of the day, they are getting paid to push some products. My default has always been element 3 on asian daily drivers. But...

VW class action lawsuit on MK7/MQB water pumps finally paid out!

are we supposed to "maintain" coolant or do any silly thing to keep the water pump from leaking? Our Tiguan is not part of this class action, as they "should have fixed it by 2020" but you know it goes, I don't want to hear that I declined a coolant flush at 60k, and that caused my pump to...

Valve cover gasket as part of routine maintenance?

thats a pretty clear VCG leaking. Be careful of those coil pack connectors, to do like to snap off at the tabs. Should be a quick simple job, lots of 8mm or 10mm bolts/nuts. An average DIY should take about 1-3 hours. Good luck :)

    400k 2016 Jetta

I'm just surprised the New England salt hasn't killed the car. As a 2016 Jetta owner, ours is currently mint right now but opposite, we are at 40k. Due to WFH environment. i would have been curious to hear if that person did the 10k "recommended" oil change service or cut it down to 5k like...

TopDon Scanner - can it do what I want?

Oh snap... that feature! Rolling down has no liability, but rolling up remotely could kill someone. Hence by default roll up is not enabled. I enabled roll-up on my VW but I don't think there is a way to disable this.

TopDon Scanner - can it do what I want?

I feel you dont need to do this function. One touch window has to do with pinch protection and knowing the limits of up and down. This feature often gets disable when changing batteries on a car and often needs to be reset. I would unplug the motor or use the one touch all the time on a...

    Considering Pocket Carry

I appendix carried for a while with my original shield. I stopped during covid because we were home all the time. Now i have 2 toddler/babies as well so bending over constantly and etc does. I've converted to selective carry instead of daily carry. I also put on about 25lbs. Doctors mark me as...

How to keep this mower in tip top shape?

I don't know much on small engines. My parents gave me this 21in Craftsman. 4.75hp that runs on a brings and straton motor. When I got it, it didn't fire up. I took everything apart and it just kept leaking fuel due to no replacement gasket. I ordered a carb off amazon ($21 for whole kit) air...

Two new Euro oil at my local Walmart

I've seen those 2 oils (VW 502/504/505 spec) at my local but I have not seen a VW 507 spec oil yet. Good for my Jetta but not so much our Tiguan.

    900 Miles in 1 year

I'm not being cheap nor lazy, it was more of a waste of time/consumables. Either way, I went to walmart and was unable to locate castrol gold so I just ponied up and did FCP's liquidmoly and a cabin filter.

    900 Miles in 1 year

The 2016 Jetta 1.4T we have is due for an oil change per cluster reminder. Debating if I should actually change the oil or not. Had some Liquid moly in it last June, I rarely drive it. Mainly to pick up food or sit in traffic. Its a city car no matter what with a lot of stop-and-go. I'm...
