    2008 BMW

Well, I would stick with the BMW 5-30 since that's what the dealer uses and it's no more expensive than OTC stuff. It is good stuff. This is the regimen I used in the X3 I had. Although, it was in vain since the car was returned. Guess I was doing the next owner(s) a favor :) Yeah, I've seen...

    2008 BMW

I just got a 2009 BMW X6 to replace an X3. I think it doesn't have the dipstick either. But neither does my 2004 MB C240. Why? Because as time advances, certain things become automated/automatic/computerized. Another example is the electronic parking brake replacing the hideous-looking...

    Flushing Radiator with Tap Water

I just want to know why you guys need/want to 'flush' anything? You simply need to drain as much of the old coolant from the rad, coolant tank and block as possible and re-fill with new/fresh coolant and distilled water mix (50:50) every second year. Why bother introducing tap water at all?

Why not more than 1 year?

I also agree that with synthetic (can't speak for dino), mileage is somewhat more important than actual time. For example, I do 10k mi. OCI's. Well that takes me more than 2 years on a car that I recently began storing. I won't be doing annual oil changes that cost $100 (8qt.+ $25 OE filter)on...

    Auto-RX & LC20 Experience

I never used rx, but have excellent lifter response from LC alone. So, that along with "looks just as bad as when I bought the car" quote after 2 rx tmts....you guys make the proper conclusion as to which product works/ed better.

oil additive for sticking hydraulic lifter ?

Yes. Try LC. Worked for me.

    Confused about LC20 opinions...

LC is an anti-oxidant, but since it can be used as a "flush", it does have cleaning potential. The only recommendations I have seen against its use is when other number are out of whack and a baseline needs to be obtained.....OR... those that have 'overused' the product ie. more than 2oz. per...

Canadians - caution on M1 " High Mileage Formula"

I believe the value of goods you are able to transport while visiting for less than 24hrs. is a whopping $0. Therefore, you probably didn't declare the oil product purchased...nor the gas fillup while visiting

BMW OIl, Tranny - everything additive

They are? What engine products do they sell? I've owned 4 BMW's over 10 years and don't remember any specific engine products pushed to me. The dealer did sneak in some cheapo fuel system cleaner a couple times and they do have an increasing line-up of car care products, but I've not seen any...

3.8 still burning oil after Auto-RX, use Restore?

Forget the "GM calls for 5-30" ____. My friends brand new `05 GM Blazer burned oil until he put in 5-40, so this is what he uses now. OTC available 5-40 or 5-50 with or without some LC will help reduce the oil burning.

Thin oil for Porsches.....live 'n learn

Maybe he means: "phat"??? On a serious note, I also don't believe the 'needs a certain viscosity' to work right thing since (as was pointed out) visocity is temperature dependent there are huge fluctuations in viscosity with operating temperatures and seasons. On a side note....if air cooling...

Oil and lube for BMW 740

Either they stopped using them in time or always recommended "premium" fuel as it seems like owners using premium fuel in their BMW's did not have any nikasil issues.

    Running A Quart Over

It may reduce fuel economy too. I personally don't like it. Just put the right amount and call it a day. Now, I can see if it says 4.7 and you use 5qts, that's fine. But to put in 5.7 or 6...uuugghh...why experiement with your engine?

Oil and lube for BMW 740

It's like anything that gets old. Ever see the condition of a `93 Lexus or Acura? The ones I've seen are beat up and most parts falling off, faded or severely worn.... So yes, if the car has seen DC winters and seen poor maintenance....and even then, the age of the car alone and you will need...

    2006 VW Jetta OCI ?

    With that oil....yes no problem.
  16. D

    Does more oil stay cooler?

Yes and no. Yes in theory, but usually the sump capacity is related to the requirement for a certain engine. eg. the 11 qt. capacity for the Jaguar V-12 or my 5.6L BMW V-12 needs the full 8L whereas a small 1.5L engine for eg. can keep half that volume cooler....of course depending on the...

Curious - why thicker visc for summer versus...

I used to think that too....that the temps. were the same regardless of outside ambient temp., but that's not true. The engine certainly has an 'operating range'. It runs hotter the hotter is outside as it has more difficult time cooling itself. Secondly, there is usually more strain put on it...

My Review of SAE Articles from 2006 and 2007

Will, no problems using either of the 2 grades in you 540. They have more cojones than the 5-30.

    LC and Oil burning??

Don't know if it's just me, but the 'search' function used to be good, but now it simply sucks. I don't think it's even searches for what you ask...can you guys fix it??? I know this has been discussed before, but I wonder if there's a new consensus.....If a vehicle is burning oil and LC is...

    2007 Focus, break in oci?

I've done it with my new vehicle last year and I think it's fine to leave it in for the regular interval unless the owner's manual spec's otherwise.
