Okay, this was spurred by all the recent threads by folks running 5W20 and 0W20. My wife's car takes 5W30 and, in one form or another has always had that until I recently switched to GC (but I'm not worried about that 5W30 -> 0W30). But my question is, are all these cars running 0W20 spec'd...

Thinking of trying this myself (never done an ATF flush and fill). Is it difficult? Any DYI tips? And last but not least, Redline D4 ATF for this trans?? Thanks! Ken

Just an update, finished the ARX rinse on my Jetta, 02 1.8T @125K. So I took the opportunity to try my first fill of RP 5W40. Initial impressions are the car is running smoother than ever! I love it! But, then again, this car just LOVES new oil. I've never owned a car that likes fresh oil more...

So I see the 5W30 is VW 504/507 where the 5W40 is MV 229.51. Are these in fact very different oils or is this a marketing position?? I ask because MOST previous VW oils were 0W40 or 5W40. This is one of the few 5W30s and I find it odd they don't have the VW cert on the 5W40.... As an aside...

My wife's car doesn't get driven much (read 30K in 10 years!)... I've been running M1 EP in it even though, when I change it at 6 months, the mileage is pretty low... I know one of the big reasons for Syn is long OCIs but is there any difference in (for lack of a better word) stability...
