    Royal Purple Max Atomizer

Bought a 2003 Rav4 manual 4WD with 100K miles / 170K kilometers from an accountant friend as an inexpensive winter ride a couple of months ago and am slowly changing all fluids and doing other service to get it winterized for our occasional -40 temperatures. Didn't like the fuel economy or...

    Motul 300V series oils

I'm leaning toward using 300V 5W-40 Motul oil and was wondering if others have tried this one and have some backup info UOA's as to how it stood up. It would be good to know if the oil has sufficient detergents to keep the engine clean over about a 5000 - 10,000 mile run. Thanks. .

    The 10 percent solution

From reading, oil changes in most engines will only replace 80% to 90% of used oil. Any management strategies to get to as close as possible to 100% new oil after each change cycle, power flushes, a double oil change with the second oil change after 50 miles etc, thanks.

    ATF shear

Somewhere on the forum I thought I had read a rule of thumb number such as 20% that a Dexron III or Mercon ATF cSt@100C viscosity can shear before it is considered no longer usable. Given that Dexron VI starts out lower I would expect that a rule of thumb number would also be less but do any...

    Which transfer case fluid

Nissan requests Matic-D ATF or compatible Mercon or Dexron III oils for this trucks transfer case fluid but from analysis Matic-D starts at 7.3 cSt@100C and shears down fairly quickly in this transfer case. I'd like to find something that will stay in spec longer, but choices seem to be limited...

    VOA's of Auto-RX

Maybe due to the search function of the forum but I can't find any VOA's of Auto-RX or UOA's with ARX product admixed into motor oil. Patents aside I'd feel a lot more comfortable putting ARX into an engine knowing a bit more about it's composition.

    Silicon in UOA's

I see some silicon contamination of UOA samples attributed to seals, but how is seal silicon getting into the oil. If from seals shedding some bulk excess material would most of this not be caught in the oil filter after a couple of changes or if the silicon is from some leaching process is this...

When to do a UOA on differential oil ?

I've been noticing that most do gear oil differential UOA's when changing the oil after extended service but if wear metal increase is lineal if there is no mechanical failure, wouldn't it be better to pull a sample at 5000 - 10,000 miles into use to get a base wear number which would give...

    Methyl ester flush

Looking at the kauri-butanol solvency value of methyl ester (biodiesel) at about 58 compared to regular diesel or kerosene at about 35 shows that biodiesel is about twice as solvent. Here's at least one company which sells pure methyl ester biodiesel 'SSI Bio-Solvent'...
