    Rotella T5, 10w30......not a lot of chatter....???

I have been using T5 in my Jeep 4.0 and my Cadillac 4.1. Both cars have flat tappet lifters and my Cadillac manual says DO NOT USE 40-weight (in big bold caps) so I wanted to try the T5 as a 30-weight. Both cars run noticeably better, ie better compression, better mileage, less noise and...

Valvoline VR1 10w30 in a non race car vehicle?

My XJ 4.0 runs best with Rotella T5 10w30 (sold by the gallon at wally world). It doesn't make any noises and it doesn't consume any oil.

    Higher pressure radiator cap?

A higher cap (eg 16 instead of 13) is probably the technically correct preference. I don't think it matters that much though. This page says water boils at 206f @ 13 psi and 216f @ 16 psi, so if you have a 195 thermostat then you can expect normal operating temperatures of 190-220f and the...

    clunking after Dexron VI

Following up... the clunking noise pretty much disappeared entirely after about a month. I just hit the 1k mile marker after the additive treatment and took it to a tranny shop for another drain. The mechanic said the pan and old filter looked clean. I had them install the last of the Pennzoil...

    clunking after Dexron VI

I just did another ~50 mile drive and it is better again. Even reverse has changed to more of a thud than a thunk. At this point I'm guessing the tranny is just dirty and the low-pressure valve noise is clearing itself up. I'll keep the current mix going until my next oil change in 1.8k miles...

All Data DIY Online Repair Manual isn't worth it

I have it for my 85 Cadillac and 91 Jeep Cherokee. I also have the printed FSMs as well as the Haynes and Chiltons books. It's good for supplemental information that is not in the FSMs, TSBs, replacement parts info (module X replaced by module Xa, for example), and other such info. Frankly the...

    clunking after Dexron VI

I have owned the car since the 90s and have maintained it pretty well. The last fluid came out clean according to the tech. I didn't see it, but they do all my suspension work and have no reason to lie about color. It's always been red on the stick btw. I don't know if they put the filter in...

    clunking after Dexron VI

Hi guys, I've got a 1985 Cadillac DeVille with 139k miles that is in solid condition so I've been trying to do a full service to get it ready for the next 20 years. It's got the old-school 440-T4/4T60 tranny, and I recently had Midas drain (not flush) the old Dexron III, and swap in a Wix...
