What does the manual say with regards to oil changes? Does it give a time period? Say at least annually. I can't imagine leaving oil in a car for over a year. Also if they are providing the maintenance for free they can require you to use their provided maintenance to keep the warranty.

There is nothing to replace. It is an algorithm that calculates oil life based upon certain inputs.

I am using a fram synwash in my 2007 Silverado 2500HD. It doesn't require oiling and you wash it with dish soap and water every 12000 miles. I bought it because I like a reusable filter but no longer wanted to use K&N's.

Your sierra has an oil life monitor why not use it? Especially since you're wanting to extend your OCI. It adjusts the OCI based on driving conditions. Most people don't go by the OLM because they want to change the oil sooner than it says to.

If you're going to pull the filter you might as well change the oil.

The issue for me is cost vs. quality. I just got a bunch of Napa Gold filters for 2 cars for .50 to $1.00 less per filter than a fram. So why should I use a filter that I don't think is a quality filter when I can get one I consider to be of better quality for less money.

As most people have said it isn't that frams are "bad" it's just that yopu can get a better made filter for the same cost or less.

I know it's not seasonally tuned but I am pretty sure ambient temperature is one of the inputs that the OLM uses.

Isn't the change in OLM directed OCI between the summer and winter due to the OLM taking ambient temperature into account?

2007 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L, 4100 miles OLM at 51%. The truck has about 4500 miles. I changed out the factory fill at 400 miles. So I am not sure how long the OLM will go. I think I will hit a year before the OLM hits zero and I will change the oil anyway.
