best oil for a vintage 2stroke?

My dad always used Bel-Ray SI7 in his '67 YDS3, and it made it to 35,000 miles before needing a rebuild. And even that rebuild was actually because it sat for 15 years and rusted fast.

    First airbus crash ?

This is why I keep my feet firmly on the ground. I know the statistics of air crashes versus car crashes... but at least I'm in control of the vehicle.

I refuse to shop Autozone now...

I did my stint on the backside of the Autozone counter, as we all know. Regarding the oil sales... once the sale was over, the only way we could adjust the price (if we missed one of the sale signs) was to only ring up half the oil or something to make the price right. There were no price...

Can anything save my neighbors Passport engine?

Turned out it was a bent valve, possibly caused by a worn rocker arm? He's still driving it, and it sounds worse every day... but he's planning on replacing the engine instead of getting this one fixed and worked over. Probably be cheaper in the long run, anyway... but I'm just waiting to see...

Can anything save my neighbors Passport engine?

I don't know anything about the motor, really. Other than prior to this, it did have a pretty good tick to it on the passenger side, which suddenly became this. I'm thinking a timing chain tensioner might be a good place to start. kd5byb- it really is as sharp of a metal on metal noise as it...

Can anything save my neighbors Passport engine?

My neighbor has a '94 Honda Passport with the 3.2L Isuzu motor. Engine has 186k miles on it, and sounds like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJpXf1DND48 The most horrible thing I've ever heard Any thoughts on what it could be, and why it goes away at higher RPMs? Oil pressure stays a...

Why I hate Exide batteries.

Johnson Controls is said to make the Duralast batteries at Autozone. For the short time I worked there, I saw several near-new batteries come back to be replaced under warranty. Even the expensive Duralast Gold series. Now, who knows how they were being treated once they left the store. Plus...

    Cancer really sucks.

Lost my mom to brain cancer when I was 16. We never will know what caused it, if anything. She lived 2 years from her initial diagnosis. Long enough to be relatively at peace with what was happening, and finish up what she wanted to do in life. Two surgeries, several clinical trials, and a lot...

    noisier after switching to Valvoline

I might go to Rotella 15-40. Being an air-cooled engine, my understanding was the heavier is better, for the higher engine temps. But I'm new to the whole bike world, so I've got some learnin' to do!

    noisier after switching to Valvoline

After doing my first oil change in the Maxim, I'm noticing more top end noise, especially right after a cold start. I do not know what oil was in the case when I bought it, but I know that I put Valvoline 4 stroke 20w50 in with a new filter. Any thoughts as to the noise? The clutch seems to be...

    havoline 20w50

Didn't even occur to me that this would be good to run in the bike. I've got a whole stock of it from the $0.99/qt sale at AZ. Guess I won't be buying any oil for the bike for a while :). As long as the clutch likes it, that is.

Err... which way does the filter go in again?

This filter has two holes... straight through the caps of the filter. rubber o-ring on each hole. There's a hollow tube that plays two roles... one, it has a bunch of holes in it for the oil flow, and two, it is what actually threads into the engine and holds the filter housing cap on. It seems...

    In car alternator test

You'll at least see what voltage it's putting out. I'd recommend going to Autozone and having them do a load test on it. That'd tell you if it's keeping up under load.

Err... which way does the filter go in again?

Did the oil in my Yamaha last night. It was late, and I was tired, but it needed to get done. In my haste, I pulled the filter cartridge out, but did not take note of how it was sitting. The filter is flat on one side and concaved in the middle on the other. When I put it back together, it...

    Ninja 250 Carb issues-Seafoam maybe?

Personally, I'd go bigger than a 250. Actually, I did. Jumped straight on a 400, and even at my 140lbs, it's not too much bike to hang on to. Besides... larger guys look a little funny on a crotch rocket. Wait... everybody looks a little funny on a crotch rocket :p. That's why I looked at...
