Will frequent oil changes compensate for bad oil?

Very rare that you will find a poor known name branded oil in that grade. Modern spec for modern engines. The manufacturer has called on that spec as it feels it best suites that engine design, economy etc. You user manual will make allowances to use different grades to compensate due to colder...

Any Bars Leak oil success stories out there?

GM used and recommended the pellets as a service item for the cooling systems on 1998 to 2003 Ecotecs. Crushed wallnut shell are the pellets with bars adding oil and other stuff to coat the insides for help with reducing electrolysis and lubing the water pump impeller. Other companies used...

Shell Helix Ultra in Australia now GTL?

It seems that some of the Helix Ultra is ditching the Group 3+ for GTL base stocks. Has anyone used these yet ? I always loved the Group 3+ slack wax, but the GTL is a nice addition to the range. They also seem to be adding the first engine warranty on an oil in Australia 250,000km on the 0w20...

    Anyone used this stuff?

Engine Armour in Australia still seems to use Group 1 oils which may not be the best for cleanliness. They confirmed this with me a few years ago via email, but new stuff may be better. Been running petrol for the lest year since it dropped mainly, but used LPG for most of my cars life helped...

    Rear main seal stop leak.....

I noticed that Liqui Moly Motor Oil Saver (Engine Oil Resealer in Aus) is Ethelyne Glycol and Tridecanol Based ? How important is TBN in Choosing an oil ?

Thanks guys, some good advice for me to ponder. Tricky when you see oils with same ratings, claim high additives etc, but TBN's are clearly different.

How important is TBN in Choosing an oil ?

How much emphasis should be placed on a higher TBN oil for a 10,000 mile drain interval ? I traditionally go for tbn's of around 9 and above etc when choosing an oil. Some oils that have the same oil ratings may only have a tbn of 7 etc. Does this mean less additives or different additives ? For...
