    5W-20 vs. 5W-30 vs 10W-30

Ford designed the engine to run on 5w30. Later, the penny pinchers started recommending 5w20 so they could up the gas mileage for CAFE. If you want to run what your engine was designed for, run 5w30. My 96 uses less than 0.25 quarts every 3000 miles, and it's gotten nothing but 5w30. I've seen...

Product from 1 of our sponsors, any good?

just creaes a bigger restrictiona nd another place for oil to leak. notice that they say spin on filters are 75% effective? that's stupid, most are above 95%.

5W20 in engines calling for 5W30

I've talked with two ford engineers and both cringe at the 5w20 recomendation. it was brought in because of one thing and one thing only...CAFE. Stick with the original recomended oil.

    Some info on gasoline brands...

That's normal for any car and any fuel. the fuel acts as a solvent. I worked for a number of years at a gas station and saw everything tanker man described. we were the biggest station for tens of miles and got deliveries every other day....I never had anyone complain about the gas, and our...

better filter than Motorcraft FL 820-s ?

Ford is using the silicone ADBV because most of their modular engines that use it have it at a 90 deg angle. without a good working ADBV, zero oil will remain in the filter. As for the K&N and it's nut....it'll probably make it near impossible to change the oil in your t-bird. without the nut...

    Motorcraft FL-FL1A or FL-299 Equivalent with 22 x 1.5 mm Threads

If his engien bay is anything like mine, there is zero rrom for an adapter. My solution was a remoe kit, summitt has a permacool kit for $40. It bolts right in, although AN lines are recomended. It uses the FL1A filter.

Getting an oil pan baffled by Moroso, and what is a windage tray?

A windage tray does not keep the crank out of the oil, it keeps the oil off the crank, which prevents frothing of the oil. Baffles keep the oil from leaving the oil pickup dry. You should look into your oil drains from your heads...some engines have holes too small, and by running at high...

    1 million mile Corolla !!!

No biggie...my mom's 84 subaru went 350,000 miles on the orignial engine and transmission. It could have gone longer, but my mom wanted something newer. I still see it around town, so I may have to track down the owner someday soon.

Ford 5.4L gas mileage w/ Chevron Supreme

metro, contact fordchip.com about your vic, and tell them you want a "gen 2" chip. With it you install colder plugs and 180deg. t-stat. On my thunderbird, highway mileage went from 20mpg to 25mpg. That's with doing 75-80mph. Others have seen 30mpg.

    Mobil 1 0w20 vs. 5w30 for a Ford 4.6

I have been told by numerous ford engineers to use 10w30, or 5w30 during harsh winter. I personally use GTX. The reason ford lists 5w-20 is that they wanted to improve the EPA MPG numbers.

    Filter size vs Engine size

I'm using the FL-1A on my 3L Taurus. It inceases my oil capacity from a little over 5qts to 6qts. Definately makes me abit less worried about running it up to 7300rpms.

    Attn: joee12, re: FL-820S

Use 10w-30, ford used the 5w-30 for better gas mileage, but certain ford engineers have said you should use 10w-30.

    Opinions on best "cheap" filter

The FL-1A filter is awesome. Been using it along time, and I also like the increase in capacity it gives me.

Do Automatic Trans Torque Converters really "amplify-multiply" torque

Exactly, and after you have reached the stall speed, any good transmission will lock the TC, reducing losses, giving maximum power to the wheels.

    If my engine blows heat....

It's not the amount of coolant, it's the amount of coolant in relation to engine size and engine thermal efficiency. If you have a large system that heats up quickly, your engine is poor at thermal efficiency. If you have a small system that heats up slowly, your engine is very therrmally...
