I’m about to store my truck for a year or so. It is almost at the end of its OCI. Should I change it now or after I take it out of storage? It is a fairly severe oil burner, if it matters.

There is quite a difference between using a random mirror and an internal transmission part or something like that….

Looks more loaded than my cartridge filters ever would after 5k miles…

Is it just me or does that look awfully dirty for only 5k miles? Is the engine sludged or something?

I simply cannot fathom how this happens. Spoiled rotten with daddy’s money? It’s just so easy and inexpensive to get your oil changed….

Maybe this is an impossible question but what could you compare the HPS to? Is it better than something like Mobil 1 Extended Protection?

Does High Mileage oil do anything for oil burners with ring and not seal issues?

So far I’ve put 23,000 miles on it and burned 30-40 quarts. No problems thus far.

Sounds like California… only people I’ve ever heard call it smogging

Luckily I don’t have to do emissions inspections with it being over 20 years old so I don’t give a **** about the cats 🙂

It’s a known problem with this truck and I do a lot of short trips (cloud of smoke on startup) but you may be right. The previous owner used a mediocre synthetic blend oil that probably dirtied it up over time.

Thanks. I’ve seen someone do that on this truck but it still looks like more work than continuing to add oil, if my valves are not going to explode….

2004 dodge Dakota 3.7L 190000 miles 5W-30 recommended Using Mobil 1 Extended Performance High Mileage 5w30 PCV has been replaced with an OEM unit, didn’t help much

My truck burns a lot of oil(a quart every 600 miles roughly.) Likely bad valve stem seals which are a major pain to replace. I don’t mind feeding it oil, but I’m curious how bad this is for the engine. Does it put significantly more wear on the valves? Given that Valvoline Restore and Protect...
