    Any Carmax fan

The one near me seriously lowballed my trade twice, basically giving me a "we don't want it" offer. The one time I had something they did like, the cars I looked at were beat. It's a bit of a rougher area though, so that may play a part. As for "just pay sticker at a dealer," even then, plenty...

Toyota 4 Runner shockingly disappointing rental experience

Average Toyota owner: "I'll never own anything but Toyotas because they're so reliable! Aside from the engine replacement, mine has needed nothing!" Replace "engine" with "transmission" and you have your average Honda owner :D (I'm kidding, don't hurt me)

Which engine oil for Subaru Crosstrek?

Why not just mix some of the 5W-30 with the 0W-20 to thicken it up slightly?

Any particular reason for the Wix filter? I saw them in the store today, but am not familiar with them.

Best small SUV or sedan for child car seat room

I'll third the Forester. VW Taos is gigantic inside for its class also, if you wanted to go subcompact. Bronco Sport exists too, and I know it gets great reviews for its size. For used, Subaru Outback and Legacy have great back seats and cargo areas.

The 2026 Nissan Sentra is a nice car

Personally, I think this new Sentra looks horrendous inside and out, but I prefer my sedans to be kind of bland. The now-outgoing Sentra is much more to my liking. The one prior to that was a bit too blah but probably much more practical than either, which is helpful in the real world where you...

The 2026 Nissan Sentra is a nice car

If it's a Sentra, Altima, or Rogue, just wait a year or two and you'll have plenty to pick from at any Enterprise or other rental company's sales lot. Just be prepared to choose between white and grey.

Purolator one cabin filters at Walmart

Put one in the Subaru a week ago. It works? Not sure what else I care about a cabin air filter. Walmart's website did erroneously claim that my store didn't have any that fit the car, so I don't think these are in that system yet.

    '08 Volvo XC70 D5 AWD

Just finished reading this entire thread. Bravo! You showed that old Volvo more love than probably 99% of car owners would ever even think of giving their vehicle. Beautiful car, too.

Subaru Forester #1 SUV for 10 Years in a Row, Consumer Reports

My daily for the past few weeks is the wife's 2018 Legacy. I'd go one further and say the ride is almost nonsensically bad. I'm not even sure how to describe it; too soft but yet unsettled by every bump. I'd guess its chassis needs more rigidity, since I know that was a focus of Subaru's with...

Supertech Full Synthetic 5w30 No dexos?

I think you're right. They wouldn't allow any sort of emergency exemption either, when they were pressed on it. I think we'll see Dexos go extinct soon. Perhaps Mobil will stick with it since they have GM as a big customer. But perhaps even the Mobil 0 (non-1 "Full Synthetic") will drop it.

    current state of computer market

Or even something like my home server, an old HP EliteDesk 800 G2 TWR with an Arc A380 (for ai with this machine, the RTX 3050 6gb would be better, but the A380 transcodes my Jellyfin content and TV streams fine without rebar). Surely one 3050 6gb would be enough to run a few services you were...

What's being done with the homelab that requires a stack of laptops? Is there a reason you can't stick it on the existing AI server?

    frustrated with job market

A newbie at a USPS sorting facility is going to be night shift for a while. OP is a shoe-in for custodian though, and that's well-known as the best (cushiest) job in the PO. Word of warning from someone who spent a couple months as a mailman: experiences at USPS vary wildly by location...

Engine blew up in the shop.

There's a Get Smart "would you believe..." bit in there somewhere but I haven't had enough coffee yet to come up with it.

Another technological mess on a newer Jetta.

Our Subaru currently has no (useable) radio because the touchscreen is failing. It's an extremely common failure item on Gen 5 Legacy/Outback models. I've never before had a radio go bad on me. Luckily, this gen has separate HVAC controls. However, I do actually appreciate the automatic...

Also, add 5 "bad time" bonus points if this is an X-Type.

Engine blew up in the shop.

This seems the most sensible to me. Fixing AC on a 200k mile Jag makes me suspect this guy's going to be a ****, though. In my experience, the combo of luxury brand and low value generally means a bad time. That said, this is probably going to be a bad time no matter what.

Why do people buy 1 quart bottles of oil?

I don't exclusively buy single quart bottles, but I absolutely prefer them. Easier to pour, easier to keep track of (in terms of figuring out fractions left in the container), easier to throw in the trunk for top-ups/emergencies. Plus, the Trailblazer takes 4.8 quarts. Kind of annoying. And...
