    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Lol nah. I stuck with 229.5 oils. The benefits of 229.6 don't seem worth it. I actually switched mechanics last summer, and they use Liqui-Moly exclusively. So, I'm running Leichtlauf High Tech SAE 5W-40 (229.5 approval) in my GLC 43, instead of the OEM oil (which was rebadged Mobil1). While...

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Recieved a reply from Mercedes itself in Germany on the difference between 229.6 and 229.5, so this should clear everything up! Right?

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

That's why I posted that video. QS is made by Shell, but it is not GTL. MotorMaster is also made by Shell, and according to the Canadian Tire Q&A team, it's not a GTL either. Not sure about the MotoMaster OEPlus range. All that is to say, that Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40 and MotoMaster Syn...

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Well, I know Shell also makes Quaker State, and that Quaker State doesn't use the same base oil as Pennzoil, Seeing as MotorMaster, Shell Helix Ultra and Quaker State don't list being GTL on their bottles, but Pennzoil does makes me suspect, the MM, QS and Helix Ultra are all the same, but...

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Interesting. MotoMaster has a 0W-40 marketed as OE Plus European Formula, whereas their fully synthetic 5W-40 doesn't have any of that on the bottle. Both meet 229.5 tho. Then there's Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40 ofc. Shell feels like a screwy company to deal with, putting the same oil in a...

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

That's exactly why I asked my question here in the first place, everywhere else couldn't answer to the difference between 229.6 and 229.5 specs. No one else splits hairs about oil like this forum lol. And, yeah I'm in Canada. I take it from your response that 5W is preferable if you don't need...

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Got it. Ah, so it's more of a marketing gimmick, and not better for performance. I suppose if I had the GLC 300 instead of the GLC 43, I might consider using it for the possible fuel economy savings. Amsoil 0W-40 holds the 229.5 approval with 3.7cP. I have considered switching to this Amsoil...

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Are you talking about his claim that 0W oils will get the engine up to operating temperature faster than 5W oils?

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

What's it for then, and why would it allow you to overlay multiple approval standards if not for the purpose of comparison? But, I take your point. If I'm sticking to 229.5 spec though, would it be worth trying a 0w30 that meets that spec instead of the 0w-40, or just stick with the 40?

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Good point. Doing some more reading, I saw one version of the owner's manual for my vehicle say only to use 5w-40 or 0W-40 weights in the AMG version. The manual in my glovebox says no such thing, but I suppose it would make sense that the 229.6 spec oils only available in 30 weight would be...

    229.5 vs 229.6 (2022 versions)

Fell down the engine oil rabbit hole when I discovered my vehicle was low on oil, and I had to top it up. I have a 2017 GLC43 AMG with 88,000 km on it. Couple weeks later, I took it to the dealer to get serviced and they changed the oil, putting in OEM 5W-40. I moved recently, so the place that...
