'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

So i am still in the process of learning. That could be an option to explore once I get the UOA back from my first QSFS oil change at 10k miles. Thanks for the idea!

12 qt. Yes My first 1 oil change with the Castrol GTX HM showed that it ended up a 20 weight after 7800 miles Retesting now with the Quaker State.

The Castrol High Mileage is a semi-synthetic. I just switched from that to Quaker State Full Synthetic the regular kind, not the Ultimate Durability 20,000 mile stuff

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

My cost $3.18 a qt for the Castrol and $3.86 a qt for the Quaker State. I checked and their are no conventional oils I have access to that meet the Ford Spec even though they all technically semi-syn anyway so not going down that road. Changed the oil last night with 9,450 miles on the Castrol...

Castrol GTX HM 5w30 - VOA

Well I am in the process this morning of changing out with QSFS, will see how that works out. If its the same or worse will prolly switch back to the Castrol, I really like how it quieted the valvetrain down compared to the Motorcraft.

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

Well one of my options would be the Quaker State that i mentioned. It would cost me roughly $8 more for 12 quarts vs the Castrol. Or I could even go to Valvoline Conventional for $10 less then the Castrol and shorten up the oci that I am trying to achieve. My goal is to determine how i can...

The OLM monitor was at 47% at 7800 miles. Im about to pull it again tonight at 9500 miles and test again. Im not planning on running 15k oci, only 10k.

Castrol GTX HM 5w30 - VOA

So far i am really happy with the oil. Yes it did get dark really quick! But it dropped the valvetrain noise significantly compared to the Motorcraft. Runs really quiet now. I'm at 9500 miles on the 2nd Castrol oil change, gonna change it today, deliberating whether or not to swap the Castrol...

The UOA showed low Zinc and Phosphorus as well. Thoughts?

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

Would you suggest swapping for a different brand for an oil change interval to test your suggestion? Or to just keep sticking with the Castrol? Also, if its fuel dilution thats really disappointing as well because 7500 miles is the severe oci recommended by Ford, regular use is 15000...

Castrol GTX HM 5w30 - VOA

I'm using a 12qt box that I can get cheaper. My other option would be Quaker State FS or Valvoline conventional.

Castrol GTX HM 5w30 - VOA

Had this run at the same time as a UOA on the same oil I am running in my 24 Ford Transit.

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

I was able to get a 12qt box for less then other comparable semi-synthetic oils that met the Ford spec.

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

I'm not sponging. Even at 10000 miles I would be changing my oil every 5 weeks. My old chevy van I was doing 6 quarts full synthetic every 3 weeks.

Here is the Virgin report of the same oil for those that could compare.

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

Well, I guess the next step will be to pull the Castrol at 10000, send out for testing and replace with the Quaker State FS. I really thought I would be good considering Ford changed from a 5w20 to 5w30, doubled the oil capacity, and is recommended 15000 oci with Motorcraft semi-syn. To see...

I did it. Brand new vehicle and hasn't been to the dealer for anything.

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

I see the data sheets about the pour point and flash points, but I thought that Castrol GTX HM was supposed to have a fairly high viscosity. On Castrol website it says 11.7 cst? The whole reason besides cost that I selected this oil is that it waa supposed to be higher then average viscosity.

'24 Ford Transit 250 3.5 Castrol GTX HM 7800 miles

Service schedule is 15000 miles. Severe use service schedule is 7500 miles. The vehicle isnt thrashed and doesnt tow so i thought a 10000 oci would be safe, i wouldn't push it to 15000 miles ever, probably not even on full synthetic. One of my other options would be to try QS Full Synthetic?
