As a former taxi driver and courier, I have to agree. The fleet vehicles I drove were in continuous operation with only the backup vehicles being parked long enough to experience cold starts.
We did not have engine failures in our fleets. We DID have automatic transmission failures. Why not...
I'll check it out. Thanks for the quick reply!
Laptop currently triple-boots between Windows 10, Ubuntu, and LInux Mint. Could be an all-day job backing up, installing 11, and then reinstalling the two Linux distros....
Have any of you successfully upgraded an "unsupported" machine to 11?
It grinds my gears that I have a five-year-old hp laptop with AMD hardware that Windows 10 PC Health Check says won't do 11.
Having gone from 1994 to 2024 without having to add a single drop of oil to any of my cars, my stash of oil was exactly one dusty quart of 5W30--or later, 5W20.
Now that my Kia Soul is using some oil and has demonstrated a possible incompatibility with Purolator-sourced filters, the stash has...
My car uses about a quart/litre of oil per OCI. I try to top-up with the same oil that's already in the engine, and I've been evaluating different oils over the last few OCIs to see what works best. So, I've got a quart or two each of Pennzoil Platinum Euro, Quaker State Full Synthetic, Mobil...
Add MAG1 and FVP to the list.
FVP Full Synthetic is 19.99 at Menards for a 5-quart jug. Some locations have FVP Synthetic Blend 15W40 in 5-quart jugs on clearance for $9.99. Both qualify for their 11% rebate program.
...especially Wrangler jeans in 44X32.
Just checked online, and most SuperTech products are on the shelf/available for pickup at my local Walmart. Prices have trended upward on some things.
My local Family Farm & Home has all the usual Mag1 (same stuff as ST) offerings in stock--no price...
We're drifting a little off-topic here, but regarding Techron--the Owner's Manual for my 2018 Soul specifies:
For Customers who do not use TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline regularly, and have problems starting or the engine does not run smoothly, additives that you can buy separately may be added to...
Per Hyundai TSB, mixed normal and severe service calls for a 5500 mile OCI on full synthetic 5W30. I don't sweat it if I approach or run a few miles past 5000 when primarily doing long trips.
Picked up a Hyundai/Kia 26300 35505 oil filter to stash in the trunk for my next Valvoline Restore and Protect oil change at Walmart.
After checking GPM and pressure-relief valve ratings, I also picked up an STP S2808 filter at AutoZone. The STP filter looks like a near-exact copy of the...
2018 Kia Soul + 2.0 GDI - 228,125 km/141,750 miles
OCI: 8050 km/5002 miles
Out: Mobil Super Synthetic 5W30; OEM filter
In: Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30; OEM filter
Couldn't get an oil change appointment at the Kia dealer for the next three weeks, so figured I'd take the Valvoline...
2018 Kia Soul + 2.0 GDI. 228,000 km on engine. 7400 km on oil--Mobil Super synthetic 5W30 with 0.9 litre Pennzoil Full Synthetic 5W30 addded.
Noted the odour of oil burning during my last OCI while the engine lugged going up inclines with the transmission in Eco mode. I've since switched off...
+1 on NEVER use the Eco mode.
During my last OCI I noted a burning oil odour from my 2018 Soul + 2.0 GDI while the engine lugged going up hills in Eco mode. Switched it off and oil consumption has since gone down from a litre every 5500 km to a less than litre every 8000 km.
Motor oil prices went up dramatically when crude hit US$147/bbl in 2008, and then never came back down afterward--even during the collapse of crude oil prices in 2020. Seems to me that market volatility considerations have already been priced into motor oil. Why would $110 crude spike the cost...
The last time I saw non-detergent motor oils mentioned was in the manual of our 1972 Toro Fiesta lawn mower--and even then, it stated that either detergent or non-detergent oils could be used in its 3.5HP B&S motor.
This, and I don't see any reason to overthink small engine oil. I've yet to own power equipment that had to be retired due to an engine failure. Some other critical part that can't be repaired, replaced, or worked-around has always been the culprit.
Just checked online, and my local Family Farm & Home store has no fewer than five options on the shelf for SAE 30.
MAG1 (made by Warren and probably the same as SuperTech) is on sale for $2.99.
