    I was going to use the JD 5w40 as well, but would like to be able to buy in quarts. Since that’s not available, I just use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck or Euro with deals from NAPA (typically $6.99/qt).

    Appears to me that Mobil 1 ESP does have API SP approval. It is listed on the bottle. Maybe you’re thinking about 0w30 that’s SL?

    You might try buying your own oil/filter and asking your dealer what they would charge to change it. I’m sure it varies (probably a lot), but it’s rather cheap where I live.

    Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 is easiest to find at my WalMart. No other C3 oils currently available actually on the shelf.

    Meets SP Engine Test Requirements, but must have some level of something to not be fully SP compatible or it would say simply API SP. 0w30 is only SL.

    Why not? Seems like a better oil. If you require SP, can always go with ESP 5w30.
