    2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV

I can’t get over the extreme cost of EV’s. I know I’m old and still think there should be $20,000 F150 XL pickup trucks available. 6 cyl, base models. But good god, when we are looking at mortgage payments and homeowners insurance for a less capable vehicle, something is very wrong. Sorry but...

What powers the ac compressor on an electric vehicle?

The first generation of these compact, electrically driven AC/Heat pump compressors are finding themselves in other applications too. Such as light aircraft.

    Tax prep woes ...

I did not know that. Yikes. Sadly, that big standard deduction was tied into the elimination of non reimbursed employee expenses. Since I spend upwards of $50K per year working in multiple locations, the tax cuts were nothing of the sort for me. As I could no longer itemize.

Why Did GM Route the Heater Return Hose to the Radiator on AT Equipped Trucks in the 70s-80s?

Interesting question. Anybody who is a fan of American cars will sometimes look at an item in wonderment. Wish I had an answer for you, other than to say, it may have been for reasons other than ATF temperature control. Guessing it's for adequate heat.

    Roof quote

I've done it, I re-roofed my fathers house after a FL hurricane, it took me about 3 weeks. Roofing is not rocket science and shingles are fairly easy to lay out. Today we have totally waterproof peel-n-stick underlayment, such as Sharkskin Ultra that a semi-skilled team can install on a typical...

    Tax prep woes ...

The HR Block software was difficult the last few years, everything looked OK, but at the end, it showed problems that needed review with regard to investment income. It needed a $0 'entry' in some very difficult to find boxes. Took a phone call to get that issue cleared up. You'd think I'd...

    M1 0w-20 EP or a better value 0w-20?

I'm not at all sure there is a higher quality oil available. That's about as good as it gets. Possibly there are 0W-20 oils with a wee bit more viscosity. But that's not related to quality.

Watched TiGeo's Tail of the Dragon video on YouTube

I don't know how this happened, but I watched the video of TiGeo's drive, on one screen, and Joe Bonamassa's "Drive" video came up on YouTube on the other, so I hit play. The music fit the drive perfectly and was really neat.

Tesla Cybertruck Hit With Stop-Sale Because of Unintended Acceleratiom Report

Time will tell, maybe only some people will accept the styling, and maybe it will need to have a large number of bugs worked out. I like it for some of the features it has. I like the bed design, with the tambour door cover, the open interior layout, the steer by wire 4 wheel steering and so...

    M1 0w-20 EP or a better value 0w-20?

Depending on your climate, the oil viscosity choice might matter. There is zero downside to a 30 viscosity oil in these engines. Also, it might be worthwhile to test multiple times for fuel dilution using a lab other than Blackstone. If not, you could possibly have unknown levels of fuel...

Anyone see a major conflict in this trailer

Looking at the flow chart, it seems a private F350 “power unit” rated at 10,000 could tow a private trailer up to 21,000

    Silicone radiator hose installation

I've also used silicon hoses with great results. I'd guess the OEM clamps are good enough.

Musk Says Tesla ‘Dug Our Own Grave’ With The Cybertruck

That actually bodes well for future upgrades. It may in fact hit the target numbers with taller cells. The 4680 is a very impressive battery at nearly 300Wh/kg. Interestingly, the taller 4695 (Rivian and BMW) carries more energy than it's modest 15mm height increase would indicate. And the 46120...

Edelbrock supercharged Subaru FA20 (Built Block)

That kind of power requires a stout oil. Some off the shelf WalMart stuff that will hold up includes: M1 15W-50 M1 10W-40 4t motorcycle oil (a superb choice for race engines, high ZDDP, high HTHS, shear proof) M1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck might be worth considering. (don't be fooled by the name...

All of a sudden I'm listening to The Police

The Police have some good music and 2 or 3 excellent songs. But most of their stuff is, IMHO, too simple and basic for my tastes. Sting's fake accent is tough for me to take.

Wow, Tesla laying off more than 10% of its world wide workforce, two Top Executives leaving

I really do love the EV's but I'm probably not buying one. I keep my stuff 20+ years, and clearly, the EV's are, at the moment, 8-10-maybe 12 year vehicles, not 20. None, and I mean zero of my hundreds of Lithium Ion battery cells last 10 years. My Dewalt stuff has top end cells and made it 8...

HF Preditor 9500 Inverter Gas Leak

Best to take the carb off inspect the float, needle and seat, and clean it. But tapping on it may help. I'm guessing, and that's all it is (a guess), that ethanol in the fuel shrunk the needle's viton rubber tip, and it is no longer sealing against the seat, allowing fuel to flow past.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 Brief drive review

This is what it looks like, a nice shade of white :ROFLMAO: , perfect for FL. It's supposed to have 280 miles of range, but I don't think it can realistically go quite that far at Florida highway speeds, the guy that drives it regularly says he goes 200 miles between charges. And judging by the...

Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 Brief drive review

Drove the EQS 680 recently, on a couple of short jaunts. It's a $200K, luxury, Maybach electric awd SUV with about 650HP and a slightly over 100kWh battery. This good sized beast has pretty epic 4 wheel steering and will turn around in about 2 lanes! First things first, it's a soft riding boat...
