I did the first drain on our ‘26 Carnival at 1,200 miles and it was fairly sparkly. The second drain at ~4,400 was much cleaner. There have been lots of reports on here of the first drains being sparkly, across a wide range of engines and manufacturers. Just the nature of the beast.

Were any of those ACEA euro spec oils or just standard API/ILSAC fills?

To @kschachn ’s point, OEM oil specifications are just setting a minimum spec. There are plenty of other specs, mainly Euro, that meet and often exceed the Dexos spec for instance. A higher/better spec will not cause a mechanical failure that a lower/less stringent spec would have prevented.

If you feel that a non-Dexos oil will cause engine harm, that’s fine. Use what makes you feel good and sleep well at night.

Key word there is “recommended” which is legally not the same as “required”.

Our ‘26 Carnival calls for 0W-20 and 5,000 mi “severe duty” OCI’s. I run and will continue to run for the foreseeable future Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 with 4-5,000 mi OCI’s. Fuel system cleaner gets used once per OCI.

I remember this tool kit being a lifesaver back in the day when people would snap it off trying to remove. After getting it out one way or the other, most converted to a standard hose fitting like you did. I grew up with a lot of 90’s GM vehicles so they always have a charm to me.

When I pulled the intake to do the gaskets and replace the injection assembly, I cleaned and reused the OE disconnect piece. This was almost 20 years ago now and before I had learned all the horror stories of that thing snapping. Knock on wood it’s still holding up nice and dry to this day.

Was the heater hose quick-disconnect already switched over to the standard hose fitting or did you do that?
