I'm not really concerned with the impact of viscosity. What I am concerned with is the addictive package of the JLR spec.

I'm not interested in warranty. Only interested in protection. Deviation from the JLR additive package is something I'd like data to support.

Ours was disabled permanently by disconnecting one wire. So as others have mentioned, disabling the "feature" is a valid alternative.

Sorry to derail. What oil and OCI were you running before cleaning?

Can you prove that the JLR specification is not something to care about? I've been unable to find UOA of folks running alternatives in these engines.

Normal ringland deposits aren't a feature to lowering oil consumption. Excessive deposits cause problems like poor ring seal, hot spots, clogged oil control rings and other unwanted behaviors.

I'll be doing VOA and UOA on a F-Type soon using the TopTec from liquid moly. I'm skeptical of the Jaguar OCI, their specification and the -20 viscosity, so want to get some real data.

What oil temps are you seeing?

Easy option, use something that meets the manufacturer guidelines on oil specification. Harder option, do tons of research, then obsess and send oul samples for lab analysis. Compare results.

Plug indexing will also impact combustion, but for most use cases it doesn't make enough impact to merit the effort.

Wouldn't the only way to confirm would be to perform UOA? Engine, climate and driving habits all impact the degradation of the oil.

Yep, especially when oil seal leaking can be from something else entirely. Age, positive crankcase pressure, etc.
