CVT fluid change and mixing oils oem vs other brands question?

On the turbo models, the rear plugs use a liquid gasket. Going through all this on my '17 FXT with the TR690. CVT drain/fill with genuine fluid is so expensive it might as well be done at the dealer, but the diffs are very straight-forward.

    Running e85?

this was one of the conclusions saab/gm made in the mid 2000s when they started pushing it. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=57315&d=1384476402 (BRZ forum, but links to study pdf) The PEA in regular gas cleans out the PIB left behind from e85. They concluded the...

2021 VW GLI - Track Day (Open Lapping) at TMP

I mean, this topic was track day-related. I can't imagine not having a second set of tires/wheels for trackdays. If I was sharing the car, I'd rather not have to worry about someone else hydroplaning my V730s, or have to explain why the daily UHP all-seasons have to be replaced every weekend...

MK7 Volkswagen GLI, change viscosity after tune?

Hint: all engines need oil that provides sufficient lubrication on start, not just ones that do it at every stop-light.

2021 VW GLI - Track Day (Open Lapping) at TMP

https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/wheel-width-is-wider-always-better/ Basically there aren't necessarily performance returns on a wider tire for a given wheel past a point. A 235 will be way more supported on an 8.5", you can add more tire to a skinnier wheel but all you get is more...

2021 VW GLI - Track Day (Open Lapping) at TMP

Yes, mine slipped. Not a part that needs adjustment (which 034 to their credit improved). Gave them away. I don't remember which brakes you have but the whitelines fit my 8J TTRS brakes w/ 8S dust shields fine.

2021 VW GLI - Track Day (Open Lapping) at TMP

Saw one on FB that just popped out of the knuckle on track, and I think the boots on DataDrivenMQB's set were toast after 3k miles. Personally I had the whiteline version which also has issues with melting boots and the adjustment plate slipping. Only option I'd look at is OEM short of full...

2021 VW GLI - Track Day (Open Lapping) at TMP

235/40 is a bit too wide for a 7.5J wheel like those, handling is kind of mushy. I would stick to a 225/40 even on an 8J wheel tbh.

MK7 Volkswagen GLI, change viscosity after tune?

IS12 1.8 engine probably didn't need fancy oil tricks to hit that SULEV g/km target. 504 oils for the motors with stricter cats are still fairly thick too.

MK7 Volkswagen GLI, change viscosity after tune?

No, it's for the SULEV classification. My R does not have that, it *does* have start-stop (disabled of course), and it's specced for vw504/502.

MK7 Volkswagen GLI, change viscosity after tune?

For sure, but it's not a change that prevents people from using the old x30/x40 502 oils.

MK7 Volkswagen GLI, change viscosity after tune?

If anyone is doubting @930.engineering for some reason, here is the 508 info straight from vw/audi: This is from their study guide for dealer techs, not marketing material. There are no changes in bearing clearances, they are already quite tight in the high performance versions.

    M1 5w40 Euro SP (2023)

Yeah, if someone else wants to spend their money. Same, I had one laying around, noticed the database was missing one of the oils I had, figured I'd try to contribute. As mentioned, I was just curious how much zinc/phos they'd cut from the SP revision.

FWIW, they're a writer, not someone with a technical background. I doubt they care at all. I knew their fuel dilution measurements weren't reliable but didn't know they were regarded this poorly. I've only really looked at wear metals and additives, I am not worried about the viscosity number...

I have sent him the latest J300 definition, asking if their definition of a 40 weight oil is different for some reason.

Their response: Will post results once provided. I happened to have a bottle that was missing from your database, so hoped it would be helpful. Are there any affordable test kits that cover HTHS?

    No, it's from this bottle:
