'22 FORD Maverick hybrid brakes grab

Makes sense to me, thanks! I wrote more for the “different = bad” crowd in here, acting like brake-by-wire is some new, unproven, exotic technology.

    Toyota switching gears?

Not everything is some grand conspiracy as cool as that would be. I’m tired of drive-by “oh the birds and marine life!” by people who don’t care about those things anyway and think it’s some big proof of “oh renewables stupid!” like existing power generation methods are so clean and healthy...

The scam continues: Why wind turbines are being re-powered at 10-years

I’m not sure I ever heard of wind being billed as being cheaper, just cleaner, another tool in the box without burning something. Was the switchover just this year? I’d sooner expect inflation or “inflation” - or something else upstream. Maintenance?

    Toyota switching gears?

I read somewhere about hydrogen being more viable in Japan and explaining some of Toyota’s and Honda’s choices, did I hallucinate that? On another note, adding electricity capacity is still going to be a whole lot easier than building out hydrogen production and fueling stations. Got to drive...

Automatic shut off of new vehicles upon idle?

    1. You can change cars, but we struggle to get people to zipper merge or navigate a roundabout in KY, how are you going to improve people's driving habits to save fuel? 2. Scotty Kilmer is a hack, outdated, and clickbaits all day long. We'd all have '94 Celica's if it was up to him. 3. Where...

The scam continues: Why wind turbines are being re-powered at 10-years

Wildlife not being harmed today is nice and all but the status quo is also not a place we can sit tight in. Immediate deaths are one thing, but so are longer-term negative effects from burning things for energy. I'm just a layman but my pipeline concern would be what land you wreck while...

The scam continues: Why wind turbines are being re-powered at 10-years

I see your blurb about wind being unreliable in that post, I don't follow when it's generally understood and compensated for that wind isn't a constant. (Another "but sometimes!" problem.) I wouldn't blame the electric half of a PHEV for being unable to drive 150 miles on a single charge if the...

'22 FORD Maverick hybrid brakes grab

Brake-by-wire is not an oddball rarity in hybrids so that the computer can blend regenerative braking with conventional brakes. Haven’t watched the video but I presume it’s Maverick-specific as it’s hardly the first hybrid to use such tech unless it’s some new, unique design the Escape and...

Automatic shut off of new vehicles upon idle?

lmao what? That’s not what they’re saying and you know it. Your post was genuinely speculation at best. Yes, some your concerns are in the realm of possibility, but are they significant enough to outweigh fuel savings? Are stop/start systems statistically creating unsafe turns and creating more...

The scam continues: Why wind turbines are being re-powered at 10-years

So to make sure I follow, you wouldn't mind if these "wind farms" were inland? I've certainly seen them in the middle of Texas. On a vaguely related note, here's a video primarily about LED traffic lights, but with a note about the potential folly of "but sometimes!" I mention it as "frozen...

Do you charge a new battery before installation?

I haven't, my typical procedure is limp to where I'm buying the battery and swapping it in the lot. If I had a garage I'd consider occasional trickle charger use but that would be before the battery goes in.

The scam continues: Why wind turbines are being re-powered at 10-years

Are you talking about the power outage? I remember the big rush to talk about wind turbines icing and blame whatever is considered "green" by less reputable "news" outlets and whatnot but they both were not expected to generate maximum power given conditions and even taking those lowered...

EV Sales Leave Chargers Playing Catchup

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2022/07/electric-cars-are-doomed-if-fast-charger-reliability-doesnt-get-better/ Hoping the problem of how common they are plus maintaining what’s already online continues to improve. Gas pumps of course have a X decade head start but the UX currently sounds annoying...

Average new car price is $50K ? Insanity.

I’m sure there’s some upfront cost savings to be found but I doubt it’ll be dramatic as the drive towards infinite growth marches forward and especially if it’s a 1:1 car to subscriber ratio. Windows 11 upgrade incompatibility

That’s incredible! Windows 11 Home forces you to connect to the internet while Pro might not - I’ll keep good ol Rufus in mind for next time. But then again, I’m hoping to ride out Windows 10 support for another couple years and then decide what’s next.

Automatic shut off of new vehicles upon idle?

That is very vehicle-specific, if the compressor is still belt-driven it won’t be compressing if the engine stops. Sometimes you get programming that triggers a restart of cabin temperature increases by some amount but again it’ll vary widely.

    Honda CVT transmission

Quick note that while the planetary gearset eCVT is common for hybrids, there's a lot of variation like that - first-gen Insights had a manual transmission and a pancake electric motor between that and the engine. Crosstrek hybrid has a CVT like the gas model, Hyundai/Kia hybrids have had both...
