Third season report on the little Ford 2.3 liter. This was a salvaged boat and the engine had sat outside for 20 years. I fixed the fuel issue, but still making metal, I'll take another sample at the end of this season.:)
Quick update on the veg journey.:) I've now got 65,000 miles running Jimmy on 100% WVO with a two tank system. This Spring I started a trial test of starting and stopping on 100% WVO instead of diesel. I preheat the engine with the block heater for 2 hours in the mornings and that's it for...
Changed out another Kirkland brand roll, these are the new 380 sheet rolls that replaced the 425 sheets. Subjected to 100 psi of oil pressures in the cold winter mornings and am running Shell Rotella T1 SAE 40W.
Latest oil sample for the Detroit 4-53T. Now have a 120,000 kms on the rebuild with 110,000 of that running 100% used veg oil. Still shedding iron, copper and lead, but that seems to be the nature of the engine. The high Sodium levels are the result of burning veg oil with high levels of salt.
Here's a video I did cutting open the Baldwin BT237 with 50,000 miles of use in a Ford 5R110 transmission. No metal or particles found in the filter.:)
Just passed 53,000 miles and 2000 hrs burning wvo and never run better.:) I'm still collecting from 4 restaurants to get the oil, but is enough to supply both the truck and shop for heat. I'm getting around 6-7K on the secondary filter and 14-15K on the primary. Happy times.:)
I like what I see with this change, Detroit 4-53T now has 50,000 miles since I put new rings and bearings in it. Hardly any metal wear, so looks like it's finally broken in.:) Sent out an oil sample to BlackStone Labs to see.:)
Finished up a 1400 mile trip down to Idaho Fall on wvo to pick up a Spicer 7041.:) Burned through about 100 gallons of wvo for this trip with no issues. Longest road trip to date on wvo.:)
During this trip through the mountains, temps got down to -40C. Heated wvo system performed without any issues.:) WVO was cut 10% with gasoline the day before this trip.:)
Another coating applied to my 2009 F350. I use normally NewHampshire Oil Undercoatings, but in this case ran out half way through, so I resorted to used hydraulic and atf.:) Happy Ford.
