    Why change your own oil?

This is why changing your own oil is important. My last oil change was full synthetic for a 2002 Ford explorer 4.0L V6. The oil filter was incorrect. See the oil filter I removed sitting in the box of the correct oil filter.

I was involved in the forum a long time ago under a different lost name. Now I'm back as I have a new Maverick 2.0L EcoBoost truck on order. I love the information found on this site. See you around.

    Amsoil synthetic in a Toyota 22RE ?

Doesn't sound like credible reasons NOT to use Amsoil or any synthetic in my opinion. I would ignore this statement, and use what you think is best based upon research on this site. If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to use Amsoil or Mobil 1 synthetics after a breakin period.

API service labels, worry or not ?????

If you have a new vehicle under warranty then it is an issue. I think it's safest to use API rating or higher. A higher letter is usually better SL being the latest.

    Full Synthetic Costs

Just curious why you only quote 55 gallon drum or more. Any serious company would be buying in 1000's of drums of the stuff which could be a huge difference in price. Also why is the additive package so much? Are you double counting for the esters? If not, what is in the additive package that is...

    Oil and Gas Mileage?

How much impact does oil weight have on gas mileage? If I get 19mpg highway, and I'm running Mobil 1 5w30, what fuel reduction would I expect if I switch to Mobil 1 0w40? I probably won't switch, just wanted to see what others experiences are with oil weight and gas mileage. I know for instance...

    Recommendations please..

You probably don't need to do a flush if you've been using M1 and changing regularly. It sounds like you have a pretty good plan if you decided to go that route. As far as oil consumption, M1 is thinner at temperature than many 5w30's. Your oil consumption might be normal for this oil. If you...

Is it Just me or Where did all the Samples go?

When I first came to this site I could have swore there was a couple pages of virgin oil results. Now I can't even find one for Mobil 1 5w30. I can't belive nobody has posted these results yet given it's popularity.

    Synthetic in a Ford 5.4L Triton V8

This is from a relative of mine that when I found out they hadn't changed the oil in awhil I requested that they drain and sample their synthetic oil. As you can see the results aren't good. I'm guessing that the oil has around 20,000 miles on it and over 1 year time. I would say that the engine...

Is M1 Higher Mileage Formula Safe for new Cars?

I purchased some Mobil 1 SuperSyn 10w30 labeled "For Higher Mileage Cars". I also have some 5w30 labeled "For Newer Vehicles". When I bought the 10w30, I assumed the 10w30 was labeled as such because most new vehicles recommend 5w30. I also suspected it was just a marketing thing. Is it safe to...

    M1 SS 10w-30 -VS- 0w-40 in '02 Toyota 3.4L V6

These results are impressive considering there was 1/2 quart makeup in the first sample and 0 in the 2nd. The added oil would skew the numbers to be more favorable, so makes the 0w40 look even better. I agree with Patman that the engine breaking in could have something to do with the reduced...

    Lubegard Engine Protectant

Does anyone know if this is a safe additive? I have a bottle and am willing to do a test on my vehicle with analysis, but wanted to make sure it isn't something that will damage the engine. They compared it to Duralube and Slick50 so that worried me because I don't want to stick anything in...

Can burning some oil be a GOOD thing?

Can burning oil actually be a good thing? Common sense tells me that if heavier weights don't burn and lighter weights do in a particular vehicle, then the heavier weights might not be getting into the places it needs to to do it's job. Common sense also tells me that burning oil causes deposits...

    Need Oil Sampling Advice

I have the Fumoto drain valve and I would like to take an oil sample without a full drain. My biggest concern is making sure there aren't any contamination on the external part of the valve so that it doesn't distort the results. What is a good way to clean it before taking the sample? Since...

    Amsoil ATF Virgin Samples anyone?

I noticed there aren't any lab tests done on Amsoil ATF. Has anyone done this or willing to do this. I think it would be interesting to see the composition since they claim to be a universal ATF. Any Amsoil reps care to volunteer to do a sample for us?
