How big is your stash, hoarders?

I have half a quart of top up for both cars. That’s it.

    New to me Toyota 1GRFE V6 2008

You’ll need 5.5 quarts for a change with filter. I find 5.8 quarts takes me to the top mark on the dip stick (where I like to be). I use the Havoline Pro-DS 6 quart boxes. 28$.

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

Just clocked over 180,000 miles in my 2011 Tacoma (purchased new in January 2011). Oil consumption is minor, with most OCI not requiring any new oil - sometimes I’ll add 1/4 quart or so…. The consumption seems random.

Havoline Lifelong available at Walmart and Amazon

I’ve used a lot of the Havoline Pro DS (and various lifelong iterations) over the years in several vehicles. 6 quarts for $28 is a good deal if you are a 5+ quart user. Otherwise you have to chase whichever brands 5qt jug is on sale and then inevitably pay full price for an additional single...

4runner needs new tires, Cooper tires any good?

Michelin Defender LTX either the M/S at Costco or the new M/S2 would be my choice. There is a reason all other light truck tires are compared to them. Excellent on-road all season performance, and they will excel in dry off road conditions as well. You can expect 50,000 miles of excellent...

    New 2024 Toyota Tacoma T24a-fts

It take 5.9 qts. I’d go with the Havoline ProDS in the smart change box - 6qts for $24. Oil is fine and the quantity matches your truck perfectly. Every 5k is more than enough.

Most Dependable Mid - Size SUV ?

VW Atlas here 2021 2.0T. It’s been kinda sorta reliable. Leaking coolant hose, intake valve actuator failure, notorious noise brake issues and a model-wide infotainment disaster. I bought an extended warranty for a reason. Otherwise it’s a great kid schlepper.

    Toyota 2.5L 2Ar-fe overfilled by 0.5q

Same on my Tacoma. Full fill with filter change calls for 5.5quarts. 6 quarts takes it to the full line.

Goodbye Duratrac's, hello Michelin Defender LTX M/S2!!!

Agreed. My LTX defenders were great on-road in snow.

DIY auto repair means not having to deal with obnoxious auto repair shop prices

Depends on the car - but some of the combo deals are surprising.

DIY auto repair means not having to deal with obnoxious auto repair shop prices

Not to begrudge a point - but the parts most independent shops are using are basically the same as those on rock auto. They just get sourced through different distributors and brands.

Can you even buy a "bad" oil anymore? Even cheap syn is great!

Long enough. The never ending march towards throwaway consumerism.
