Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

Honestly those kind of specs I wouldn't worry about, I found a similar thing in a 3mz with 80k miles that gets 3k oil changes. When it comes out with a little shimmery trail to the oil I'd be concerned. My uneducated take imo. Other than an intermittent coilpack issue, I've now got ~3k since the...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

My 5.7 had actually had the full timing chain tensioner job at 130k, so 15k miles ago at this point. Doesn't have a chain tensioner tick anymore though, and I'd assume is unrelated. I'd read somewhere that the debris in a pan can actually be additives like moly, unsure if true, but I've noticed...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

Not many updates because not much has happened and lifes been busy, I'm at about ~1800 miles since draining the oil of concern. No problems or unusual extra noises, I'm gonna start planning to do the oil analysis at 2k or 2.5k and probably use Amsoils service.

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

Long awaited update since I forgot too earlier. Not long after my last post I messed with the pulleys and by pulling the fan back and forth I got it to make that tap/knock noise, so I've continued to run it for the last thousand miles. Noise hasn't changed or gotten worse and the engine itself...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

Been outta town since Thursday, will be back to figure it out next week though. The deep tapping noise? It didn't always make that noise but it's really hard to hear on some speakers, I'm pretty sure it's a pulley and possibly the alternator I put in last September, as it has the same rythmn to...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

That's kinda why I wasn't concerned about it at first and only whenever my oil appeared shiny. The engine runs smooth, has power, and the ECU will throw 30° of timing at it whenever I was on the highway. I'm rather unfamiliar with catastrophic engine issues, so I'd have no idea how long it'd...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

I did previously check the accessories briefly by wiggling and spinning them, nothing really obvious. The PO did replace the water pump with a cheap O'Reillys one when it was leaking too. Also the noise doesn't have the same consistent RPM based tapping that rod knock does, it seems to almost...

I jarred about 2 ounces from the drain pan, pan was relatively clean (other than sticker residue) I didn't exactly think I was gonna need a sample, and I was quite horrified to see shiny chocolate milk coming out.

That crossed my mind, especially because of the terrible filtration of the BOSS that could've let it pass. Is there any way of knowing if any of it was bearing material? From what I can find online the OEM ones are an aluminum alloy.

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

As I started hearing a lot more timing chain chatter on both banks after my 2 mile drive last night. I think this might be the issue and the shop that did it obviously did sub par work, it seems the replacement kit guides are aluminum is my best guess looking through the fill port, I can't see...

The lower pans been RTV gooped on before, but I'm pretty sure they come with FIPG from factory.

I figured I'd probably 3ur rod studs are torque to yield, so they'll need replaced if I do anything more than physical and gauge clearance check, and I'll need to pull the upper oil pan too. I'd just like to be more certain in diagnosis before tearing apart the engine and worse possibly the...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

I'd only be able to buy one off Amazon and at the point I'm at a tube of gasket maker is a lot cheaper. If I had one on hand that'd be great though. After driving it a couple miles today, not much seems to really have changed, if that was all bearing material would it really have made it 500...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

Its been about 400-500 miles, no actual changes in performance or anything. It did start around the time I changed plugs, but thats unrelated I think. I've heard quite a few 5.7s but never one making the rythmic tapping mine started. I too hope its somehow just normal but I've got my doubts lol...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

Slighty, its slightly audible in the cab whenever idling, I've heard the tapping noise while taking off from stops, but as for accelerating down hills or up the noise is never present. I watch my absolute and calculated load while driving with OBD Fusion and it seems entirely unrelated, and...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

I'll have to test that tomorrow. What would be the result if it is bearing wear? The noise seems to disappear over about 1000-1250 rpm though, or really once you get over 10mph and aren't just idling forward.

Drivers side? The high pinging noise is timing chain slap I think, its new in the last couple of days, but that also might be winter related. I'm meaning more the deep diesel chugging sounding noise on the passenger side that's rhythmic but inconsistent. It also partially sounds like its coming...

Really glittery Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 change on 2008 Tundra 5.7

Installed new plugs today, changed filter to NAPA platinum, and test drove it for the first time since finding glittery oil. It makes this noise at a warm idle. It's done this ever since around 143k, some people with Tundras say it's normal, some people's are much quieter. Any input? The noise...

Hoping that's my Tundra, let alone never heard of one failing under 200k+

Wouldn't I be noticing an oil pressure drop on the dash gauge? Granted most Toyota gauges are practically dummy gauges and they're not numbered. That is a good idea though
