Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

Yes correct, stock cam and heads on SBC and SB Chrysler, potentially RV cam (unknown) but that's as extreme as it gets. True, typically working out to a short 1,500 mile interval. That is reassuring, and why I'm thinking away from the VR1 given it's 20w50, so whilst the zddp is there, if I can...

Castrol EDGE 5W-50 used oil analysis after 4 hours on the track in a Mustang GT

Perhaps they have changed some things, as the data sheet from 2025 https://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/FusionPDS.nsf/Files/B636C695ACDD203F80258CE40051D9A0/$File/wepp-cr6nk7.pdf shows Sulphated Ash of 0.77 vs. what would normally be ~1.2. It also has a TBN of 6.6. It's classed a SP. But strange...

Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

Still here. I realised notifications weren't coming through for replies, plus an intense year of projects. VR1 is an ideal choice but only available in 20w50 here and being a relatively cool climate, it's more of a "summer only" choice. I'd prefer the initial start up protection of a 5w or 10w...

Castrol EDGE 5W-50 used oil analysis after 4 hours on the track in a Mustang GT

Looking at the additive package, could this be very comfortable in a flat tappet engine? Seems to boast molybdenum and titanium which are otherwise not found in the usual line up (Valvoline VR1, Castrol Classic etc.)

    Mobil 1 15w50 vs Mobil 1 15w50 Racing 4T

Thanks this has been helpful - I did think there would be something to do with wet clutches (I don't know much about bikes but have heard the term fairly often). Application wise it is a 350 SBC crate race engine and yes this one does too "Corvettes and Camaros used to call for Mobil 1 15w-50...

    Mobil 1 15w50 vs Mobil 1 15w50 Racing 4T

Hi folks, We're trying to understand if there is any difference between the two or if they are the same and just relabelled here in Europe, as all we have is the Racing 4T which says it's for motorbikes. Race crate engine calls specifically for "Mobil 1 15w50" fully synthetic. We've ran out of...

Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

Sadly no, still awake comparing and trying to find some numbers behind the marketing. Helix appears to be above 1,000 zddp, but can't find anything on synpower numbers. Would also be good to see the contents of their AW package e.g. moly and boron. I liked the idea of Valvoline maxlife but...

Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

I found the correct datasheet for the Valvoline Synpower 10w40 (the one in the original post is 5w40). https://sharena21.springcm.com/Public/Document/18452/d5e3202e-d3db-e811-9c1b-ac162d889bd1/391aae45-ddf4-e811-9c1b-ac162d889bd1 It's showing as semi synthetic, A3/B4 API SM SN/CF. MB-229.3...

Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

I was doing the same with Driven - mixed 5w30 and 20w50 half and half to get somewhere around 15w40. It's not linear of course, perhaps it was more of a 17w45 in the end.

Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

England. Up until now used Driven HR but price has gone up 50% The other options I can find: Shell Rotella, 4, 5, 6, any weight combination. Ideally a 10w40 Shell Helix HX7 Valvoline VR1 - various weights Valvoline MaxLife - 10w40 Valvoline Synpower (might work, unsure) Castrol Classic GTX...

Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

Thank you - "Unless you have high spring pressures then a flat tappet engine does not require high levels of ZDDP" That was my understanding too, and it lead to me thinking the Synpower might be very ok given it's close to 1,000ppm. But I guess it doesn't have the seal conditioners that the...

Valvoline Synpower for a flat tappet

Hi all, I'm struggling to find a product data sheet with ZDDP listed, or VOA for Valvoline Synpower 10w40. Their PDS shows TBN as 9.3 but doesn't mention ZDDP...
