CX-5 oil change today… forgot to buy crush washers…

Thank you everyone for the feedback. Oil change went well. My friend had some M14 crush washers for his Civic Type R and they worked perfectly. Kirkland 0w-20. Fram Ultra oil filter. Nothing fancy. Friend's car is pictured and my wife's CX-5 is in the back.

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

223,000 miles on my dads 2006 Honda Accord. My cousin originally bought it brand new and we took over ownership inn2009… The first few years we only used Honda Oil and Honda Filters… I would say around 2013-2014 we used Castrol Magnatec for a few years and then the last couple of years we used...

Florida residents, should I move there?

For added clarity, I don't exactly mean Miami but rather that general part of Florida. Fort Lauderdale/ Hollywood/ Aventura etc... Yes, I've heard good things about Naples. What do you mean by it's hard to get? It's expensive, or do you mean they literally don't insure you? We're going to...

Florida residents, should I move there?

Life in Los Angeles is not the same as it used to be. The last 10-15 years has been rough and it continues to get worse for various reasons. Keeping politics out of it, the main thing is that it is so expensive to live here. My wife and I have been considering moving to Miami or another part of...

What are you doing right now?

Currently at work. Pretty much the only time I check BITOG... I work in a hospital as part of the medical team. 71 year old patient just died, multiple health issues. It's sad but also makes you appreciate your life... Other than that, just reminding myself that I need a new engine air filter...

Apartment dwellers... where are you doing your oil changes?

Quick bump to this thread and a response to shortyb... I like the idea of an extractor I had totally forgotten that was an option. The only issue is my wife's CX5 has the filter underneath the car. Can I get away with not replacing the oil filter this time? I have 1 year and 5000 miles on the...

Apartment dwellers... where are you doing your oil changes?

I've always lived in a house for most of my life but the last 2 years my wife and I have been renting in Los Angeles (life is way too expensive here) due to career reasons. Well, being a car nut and obviously a member of BITOG... I do my own oil changes. What are my options for apartment living...

Using higher viscosity oil after a certain mileage? 150k? 200k?

The Mazda is NA and the oil is SP Plus (Castrol Edge). I had to do some reading on this just now as I wasn't too clear on the API stuff.

Using higher viscosity oil after a certain mileage? 150k? 200k?

Right on, I forgot that the first number is mainly for cold weather.

Using higher viscosity oil after a certain mileage? 150k? 200k?

As the question says... I ask because I recently sold my 7th gen Honda Accord and I have like 5 jugs of 5w20 oil left over. If I had the hindsight I would've just given it to whoever bought the car. My Mazda uses 0w20 and I know a lot of you use frankenbrews and whatnot. At what point is it safe...

Is there a consensus on using non OEM Honda HCF-2?

Hey BITOG family, I hope y'all are doing well. I've spent about a week or so doing some research on the matter but I can't seem to find a consensus on the matter. I'm about to hit 150k on my 2013 Accord Sport and I am getting ready to drain and fill the CVT... I know HCF-2 is what Honda is...

What would cause inconsistent oil consumption?

Regarding the Semi Synthetic or conventional oils, do you recommend those at the recommended 0w 20? Or something else?

What would cause inconsistent oil consumption?

I always let it sit overnight before checking it and yes it’s parked on a flat surface when I do so.

What would cause inconsistent oil consumption?

Do you mind quickly explaining your reasoning behind recommending these oils? What’s the benefit of running something slightly more viscous and why conventional? Also, what’s the difference between the T1 and the T4?

What would cause inconsistent oil consumption?

I’ll get some Castrol GTX next time… what viscosity? And what’s an HDEO?

What would cause inconsistent oil consumption?

I’ve been using Kirkland the last couple of times. What’s the issue with the synthetic?
