    Rotella T5 10w30 GL1800 4406 miles

Honda's oil change interval for the GL1800 and most other street bikes is 8,000 miles. I change my GL18' oil every 5,000 because it makes me "feel good". I wonder how the 10-30 would be if run for the whole OCI? prs

    Cleaned and oiled the chain

I have used the BelRay chain wax product and it was pretty bad to sling off the chain even after sitting all night and after getting as much cleaning solvent off as possible. I am using the bar and chain oil from Stihl now and it seems to stay put much better. I have also taken to using WD-40 as...

Where in supply chain is ethel added?

Ethanol is ehtel alcohol; right? I can tell ya fer sure that we know what to do with "moonshine" here in West, by God, Virginia. I think its pretty easy to detect the odor of ethel in gasoline and I bet that my local station's fuel is drunk. prs

Fuel grade with 2 cycle oil

Bear, go to the Stihl site and you will see their new 4-stroke fuel lubricated line of engines on different equipment. Min is a commercial grade pole pounted chainsaw. Little sucker runs great. I've mixed my last batch of fuel at 50:1 with mid grade non-ethel fuel and the Stihl synthetic lube...

    Green Grease?

I attempted a search of this forum for titles and boday and green and "green grease" and such with no HITS. Is this Green stuff so terrible that you guys won't even mention it. I'ved used it to pack fresh water boat trailer and utility trailer bearings -- really hard to get off your hands with...

    Duramax owners manual states.....

The relatively new Shell T-6 5-40 "might" be a better, more stable lube than others in this viscosity. Shell seens to tout that its base stock allows the wide spread without use of very much VII. I dunno, but I use it in my Honda GL1800 Wing and the shifts have stayed quiet longer and with any...

Where in supply chain is ethel added?

In our area, Chevron pulled out and Marathon took on most of those retailers. One local went with Exxon instead. This station always had relatively light business with Chevron, even though they were in the same scheme of colluison with all the other local stations about fixing prices to be all...

    Rotella T6 5w40 - Compact tractor.

I run my compact Diesel John Deere 650 year around with Shell Rotella 5-40 (T-6 as of last spring). Previously used Mobil-Delvac One 5-40. Our ambient temps are often in mid 90F range in summer and winter may get below 0F on occasion. No problems, tractor kept in unheated building. I run off...

1963 Lark V outboard lower unit gear oil

Regarding clutch slippage, I find that there a sort of a clutch that can slip in the electric shift version. An electromagnet pulls a spring that is would around the drive shaft and thus grips said shaft to engage. There is a simalar such unit for reverse (they grip sort of like Chineese finger...

    MMO to clean the chain?

I have used Kerosine and WD-40. There is a write-up with pics on the GS500 forum www.gstwins.com that about various solvents and their effects upon "O"-ring chain and WD-40 did an excellent job and did not swell the rubber. If you use chain wax like Belray, the stiff brushes seem to make getting...

1963 Lark V outboard lower unit gear oil

Yep, this one is electric shift and thus we are staying with the Type C. He ran the boat yesterday and thought the "clutch might be slipping" when attempting to go wide open throttle. I'm thinking there is no friction clutch, right? maybe he is getting cavitation at prop. prs

Fuel grade with 2 cycle oil

OK, I'll change my evil ways. Now, some of my equipment goes back to the early 1970's; a couple of Super XLAO Homelite saws and a Red Max brush cutter than is not much younger. The Homelites were originally supposed to use 16:1, but do great on 32:1 -- so now maybe with better oils they can...

Oil recomendation for 1968 Evinrude "Big Twin"40hp

My son has been refurbishing an Evenrude Lark V 40HP from about that same era. The oild now are far better than back in the day when those were new. TCW-3 is the way to go. We are using the originally recommended 40:1 mix, but it is way smokey and maybe we should change to 50:1.

1963 Lark V outboard lower unit gear oil

We found the previouis owner had been using 90W gear oil. We drained and flushed with WD 40, leet it sit and and repeated several times. Finally got all the old out and refilled with the stuff Evenrude specified. He ran that for about an hour before the motor stalled out (hey, at least it ran...

Fuel grade with 2 cycle oil

I've always used regular fuel to mix 32:1. Recently purchased a Stihl chainsaw with with 4 stroke engine that uses 50:1 fuel mix. Owner's manual specifies mid octane fuel. Why? Seems to me the oil is already going to raise the octane (make the fule less easy to ignite). In the past, using higher...

    Marathon Gas ???????

My recent experiences in updating my fuel credit cards seem to indicate Marathon Oil is now one of the SuperFleet subsiduaries of Ashland Oil. The "family" now consists of Marathon, Speedway, Super America, Rich, Pilot, and Valvoline. Regardless the name on the station, top tier or otherwise...
