M1 Volatility - multiple vis products

My Walmart doesn’t carry it and it shows out of stock on the website.

That’s also not at Walmart unless you want to buy for like $11.99/quart

Where do you even get QS Euro 5W-40? An online search yielded none for sale anywhere in the USA. If I could get it, I'd be interested in using it in my Elantra N as a summer oil.

    Castrol's 25,000 mile claim

That's the 3.5 engine, right? It's not hard on oil. I think you'd be good to go 12,000 on it, but I'd use 5W-30 version. Zero reason to use a 0W-20 in that engine. Just do a UOA.

Why couldn’t they have just made it an even 6? 🙄

It’s the 1990’s: what motor oil and grade are you using?

Bought my first Mobil 1 in the late ‘90s when I was about 18. Used it on the advice of a friend’s dad who was a successful dentist and collected cars. Among the cars he had, that I remember: An AMC S/C Rambler (4-speed Hurst) and a Coronet Hemi sedan, similar to these: He was a huge Mobil...

    I’m sure I don’t need to tag @kschachn but I’ll do it anyway 🤣 🍿

MolaKule Q&A on Aircraft Structures V

They frequently have to be replaced on airliners, where, as @Cujet mentioned, they get corroded because of drinks getting spilled and other corrosion catalysts. And it can be a pretty big job.

MolaKule Q&A on Aircraft Structures III

I’ve noticed the blue afterburner flame on Russian military jets also. Just speculation here, but, a blue flame is hotter than an orange or yellow flame. Could the Russians be tuning their engines to supply more air (O2) to the afterburners, creating a leaner-burning, hotter flame, resulting...

Energy/Resource conserving oil not allowed? Why?

Doesn’t resource-conserving also indicate thin and formulated for fuel economy? Thin base stock with lots of viscosity modifying polymer in an attempt to save fuel?

    Weekend in Gatlinburg TN.

It’s Appalachia. You get outside the cities, and unless you work for city, county, state, or federal govt, or you’re a college-educated professional, there’s not a lot of good work. But people get by. It’s definitely a different culture.

Euro specialized indy-mechanics all seem to use LiquiMoly?

LiquiMoly is a great case study in how far a cool name gets you in marketing. It is definitely a catchy name, and, as @edyvw pointed out, it says MADE IN GERMANY. That seals the deal for most people, even car guys, who just may not be oil nerds who peruse BITOG all day like us. And the...

    M1 ESP X4 0W-40 4.2k mi; 2010 Mazda 3 2.5L 143.7k mi

It’s not a very powerful engine. Do you notice any sluggishness from that thick of an oil?

    Tundra oil

I mean…doesn’t proper viscosity depend on his use case for this vehicle? After all, this is a heavy-duty truck engine. Could possibly be subjected to heavy towing, maybe even at higher elevation. Even Toyota includes language in the owners manual allowing for the use of higher viscosity...

Qatar Airways orders 160 wide body Boeing jets with GE engines

Some detail from Mr. Ewing would have been helpful there. Nevertheless, thanks for posting the article. Embraer’s E2 is also using the PW GTF. Beautiful engine, but the reduction gearbox that they claim is a sealed unit that’s supposed to last the lifetime of the engine, doesn’t inspire...

Qatar Airways orders 160 wide body Boeing jets with GE engines

I’d be surprised if Qatar followed through on buying 160 jets. The question of whether Boeing is capable of delivering on that order while meeting quality standards and promised price and deadlines also enters my mind. I’m no expert of course, but the way it often seems to go is that an...

Musk Says Tesla ‘Dug Our Own Grave’ With The Cybertruck

I see quite a few of them around the Nashville area. But, then again, they’re sort of hard to miss! It’s a curiosity to me. I haven’t researched them much. I know they’re big and they’re fast. Do they have much utility? Like how much can you fit in the bed? How many passengers? I assume...

OK, maybe they’re under-promising and over-delivering in terms of what’s actually listed on the site.
